My Waack came from the same area. Now I have noticed it says Rostock, Mecklinburg-Schwerin. Gustav Waack (b1834-d1908 Ida Grove, Iowa) came with his wife Dorathea Paap Waack (b1834-d 1913 Ida Grove, Iowa). They brought over Sophia b1863 and Frank b1867. I have found family from Sophia. I am from Franks family. They had more children. From the list of birth dates they were here by 1869, Emma was born here in Chicago.

Looks like we have to find family in Germany! We have to be connected some how. This is not a common name.
Thanks
Sue

My great-grandfather:

Notice his mother reported she was born in Zickhusen.

The passenger manifest in New York gave the family's origin
as Beidendorf.

Beidendorf and Zickhusen are very close together, about halfway
along a line between Wismar and Schwerin

I read that your Waack were Lutheran. That maybe the connection. Have you tried to find a church in Germany were they could have come from.

Lutheran, yes. I don't really have enough info to find the church
on that side.

I found this site for Lutheran Chruches, but have not gotten into it yet. Thought you might look at it too.

Looks very useful. Unfortunately, it is a forty-volume set
that you have to buy. I don't know whether it's possible to
identify which volume if you only want the volume that
covers your ancestor's particular parish.
