I have links to Vye's who were stone masons near Corfe castle in Dorset. my ancestors moved to Ramsgate in Kent to build the Harbour and later became grocers there. I am not doing formal research at present but would be interested to hear if you have any Dorset links

I am researching my family tree who are from Melcombe Regis originally. My G.G.Father is Thomas Vye born in 1850. He was married to a Fanny Vye and had 4 children. George, Fanny, Walter and Rose. Walter was my Great Grand father and was born in 1877. He married a Mary Louisa Attwood in Osney, Oxford in 1899. They had 6 children my Grand father Ceicil being the last of them, he was born in1907 in Chester.

I have recently startyed ti try and compile my family tree. My information of the past(when a child enquiring of my father)JOHN BAGGS VYE, was that the Vyes originated in Dorset; were landowners(I read that some Vye brothers were sentenced for smuggling (Lulworth Cove in middle 1500s. My father also stated that it became customary for the first born male to have the name Baggs included in their christian names; he decided that he would be the last!!)My fathers father was named Henry and my G/Grandfather was was named JohnBaggs Vye.JHV
