SMITH, ANN VURGASON Ann Vurgason Smith, 58, died Thursday, February 19, at her home in La Jolla. She is survived by her loving husband Howard Paul Smith, and her caring cat, Sweet William. She is the daughter of Ray and Virginia Vurgason, formerly residents of Point Loma, now deceased. She attended Point Loma High School, The University of the Pacific, and San Diego State University, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at the Currie Elementary School in University City, subsequently received a certificate in early childhood education from City College, and taught at the Gluck Child Care Center, The Sorrento Valley Childrens Center, and the Little Steps Christian Pre-School. She and her husband traveled extensively together, including safaris to Tanzania and Kenya, and trips to Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, England, and Ireland. Her love of wildlife and nature was her motivation to visit many of our major National Parks here in the United States.
