My grandfather was John R. Vunk, b. Virgil, NY 1874.
His family landed in Rhode Island in 1647 and moved to eastern Long Island soon after, where they ran a cobbler shop. One descendant fought at the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga and was a POW in New York City during the American Revolution. They later settled in Fort Lee, NJ and then moved to central New York State, near Cortland.
If any of this rings a bell, give me a shout. Always looking for relatives- there aren't that many Vunks around, apparently.
