I was wondering if anyone had any information on Phillip Vukonich (b. 3-1-1878) who came to Illinois or Iowa from Croatia and worked as a mule driver in the coal mines when he was 16. He married Verona Lajko in Pekin, Illinois on feb, 6 1906. He changed the family name to a more americanized "Walk" and had 11 kids. One them being Frank Walk, my grandfather. The name I have now comes from a failed marriage to someone I have no blood relation to and I was thinking of possibly changing my name back to Vukonich as it should be.
