I had a grandfather named Stefan Vucko who imigrated to Chicago sometime around 1914.
He was the son of Štefan Vucko (senior), and Ana Peterka, with 6 siblings; Martin, Terezija, Katarina, Ivan, Rudi, and Anatonija. His place of birth was Gornja Bistrica and the date of his birth was 1885. He died in May of 1954.
He married Magda Koren in January, 1911, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Crenšovci. He left for America c. 1913 in search of work. I believe he may have worked in the mines and other miscellaneous jobs. He never returned to Slovenia, and lived out the remainder of his life in Chicago
In Slovenia, he left behind a young daughter, Maria. She was two years old at the time.
I am curious to know if he ever remarried and had another family while living in Chicago.
I would also like to know where in Chicago he is buried or how I can get that information.

Hi, I sorry but i would'nt know where your grandfather was burried. But i wonder if he could have a connection to my family. My grandfather came from croatia between 1955 - 1965 to Australia and he may have had brothers. he also fought in world war 2. So he probably was old enough to have a brother fitting your grandfathers description. If you get in contact with me i can find out whether he had a brother who moved to America. I don't want to get your hopes up, he may not remember whether his brother stayed or left croatia.

Hello Ben.
Thank you for getting in contact with me. My grandfather left Slovenia I think around 1913 or so. As far as I know, he did not have any brothers living in Australia. I know he moved to Chicago and my parents even visited his grave in Chicago many years ago, but my parents have since passed away and no one in the family knows where his gravsite is. But also, because he was in Chicago for so many years, until his death, our family was wondering if he maybe had a second family....as in, did he get married or have children while living in Chicago?
Thank you so much for contacting me....l hope you can find out some more information and pass it on.
Thanks again. P.

I came across your message while looking for a similar name. Did you look at the WW I Draft Registration records? There is one for a similar name. It is indexed under Steven Vuchko but if you look at the signature it looks like Stefan Vuchko. It is a little hard to read but it looks like the date of birth is listed as 12/19/1884. His address looks like 961 W. 18th St, Chicago, IL. He was a Laborer at Continental Can Co., 22nd & Halstead, Chicago, IL. It lists nearest relative as Mary (?) Vuchko of the same address. He is listed as alien and it looks like Austria Hungary is written. Short, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair. It was signed 9/12/1918.
