Classification: Obituary
SAN FRANCISCO - Tony Eli Zanic (Andrew Vross) was born June 4, 1942, and passed away June 5, 2014, while visiting Zagreb, Croatia.
After researching his Croatian heritage, he changed his surname to “Zanic” in order to pay homage to his family.
After serving honorably in the U.S. Navy for four years, Tony received his Bachelors degree from the Academy of Art University in Los Angeles.
He moved to San Francisco in 1976, and over the next 30 years worked as an architectural designer for several prominent architectural firms, including Gensler and Associates and Patri Merker. Significant projects
Tony worked on included the San Francisco Airport International Terminal and the Omni Hotel in downtown San Francisco. He retired in 2007.
He loved music, art, playing the piano, classic old Hollywood movies, card games, cooking, traveling, donuts, Jay’s Hot Dogs and his family and friends.

Tony is survived by his sister, Patricia Carr, and brother, Charles Vross, both of Youngstown, Ohio; his nieces, Daphne Carr of New York City, and Kymberly (Vross) DeGenaro of Los Angeles; and his longtime companion, Harry McDonagh of San Francisco.

His parents, Andrew and Anne Vross, preceded him in death.

All who knew Tony will sorely miss his easygoing style and subtle wit, and in our hearts, he remains “number 1.”
A private celebration of his life will be held in San Francisco at a later date.

Donations can be made in his honor to the St. George Croatian Center, 3200 Vestal Road, Youngstown, OH 44509.
