Hi. I am a descendant of Judith "Ury" De Vrij who was born in 1672 in St. James, Duke's Place, London, England. Her name is spelled phonetically on various records at The Hague indicating that she probably could not read or write. Her name is pronounced phonetically in Dutch as 'FRY' and was spelled as Vrij, Vril, de Vry and is probably of Walloon origin.
Judith married a French Huguenot refugee named Pierre Le Grande on July 10, 1682 in St. James, Duke's Place, London, England. (Note: Register of marriages 1664-1693 St. James Place, London, England - July 1682 - Pierre LeGrand Batchelor, Judith Vrill Spinster.) American Colonial Records refer to her as 'Ury' LeGrand. Why Ury was used and not Judith is unknown.
Judith's children with Pierre Le Grand were as follows:
1. son - Pierre Le Grand, b. bet. 1683-1686, prob in London, England
2. daughter - Anne (Marie) Le Grand, b. April 16, 1687, in La Haye, Netherlands
3. son - Jacques Le Grand, b. June 20, 1688, in La Haye, Netherlands
4. son - Isaac Le Grand, b. November 9, 1689, in La Haye, Netherlands
5. son - Daniel Le Grand, b. December 20, 1691, in La Haye, Netherlands
6. son - Jean Le Grand, b. December 5, 1694 in La Haye, Netherlands
7. son - Jean Pierre Le Grand, b. June 2, 1697 in La Haye, Netherlands
Judith and her family immigrated to Virginia on September 20, 1700 on the ship "Peter and Anthony" of London. Judith married a man named Moses Levereau after the death of her husband in approximately 1710. Judith died on May 1, 1719 in Falling Creek, Henrico County, Virginia.
If anyone has any information on Judith, her ancestors or the De Vrij surname I would love to hear from you. Thanks for reading.
