BESSEMER, PA. – Daniel Vrabel, 91, a former Bessemer resident, passed away on Sept. 23, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio.

Daniel Vrabel was born on Jan. 17, 1919, in Madara, Pa., the son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Kotnik) Vrabel.

Daniel was a graduate of Bessemer High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.

He married the former Inez Puskala on Oct. 4, 1941.

Daniel was an electrician at the Bessemer Cement Company for 44 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Christ the King Parish, the Bessemer American Legion, Earl J. Watt Post, and was a member of the Mohawk School Board, where he was honored with having the longest tenure in Pennsylvania as a school board director of 44 years. He was also a director of the Midwestern Intermediate Board consisting of 27 districts, and also the Vo-Tech of Lawrence County Board. Daniel retired his services in 1995.

Daniel leaves behind his son, William Vrabel of Boardman, Ohio; grandsons and spouses Kevin and Justi Glaros of Mercer, Pa. and Keith and Julie Glaros of Poland, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, Max and Myles; two sisters, Katherine Horney of New Castle, Pa. and Monica Bader of New Middletown; brothers Cyril Vrabel of Bessemer and Andrew Vrabel of New Castle, Pa.; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadette.

The family will receive friends at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St. in Bessemer, on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.

A Blessing service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Bessemer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Mohawk area school libraries.
