My father, Albert Vose migrated from Liverpool, England to Australia when he was in his early 20's I think. I am now 42 years of age and my father is still alive. I do not know much about his family other than his sister June now resides in Croydon, England. My father resides in Melbourne as I do also. I do not know if this helps but my email is graham.vose@coastalmercantile.com.au Regards Graham

Re: Josiah Vose relating to his entry in "Robert Vose and His Descendants" by Ellen Vose

I also believe this Josiah Vose was born in Milton, Mass., Sept 25, 1767 to Nathaniel Vose, III and Ruth Miller. Another researcher had a Josiah Vose born March 2, 1766 in Boston, Mass. to Captain Josiah Vose and Margaret Rush. Do you have any record of the date of birth and where Josiah Vose was born? Nobody seems to have this information - on such a historical "hatter" very well-known first settler in historical Francestown, NH. I know the History of Francestown book has listed that the Josiah Vose who died in 1843 in Francestown, New Hampshire states he is a native of Milton, Mass. Yes, I have that - Josiah Vose and Rumahah Vose had a child, Josiah Vose (1774-1775), which is why I don't believe my Josiah Vose is their son. It seems a parent would not have named a son Josiah in 1766 or 1767 (who lived to 1843) to then 8 years later name another child Josiah (1774-1775). Please keep me posted on future finds. Thank you.

HI, I have an extensive library of vital records including
the Vose Book, plus access to genealogical library her in Salt Lake City, also have a copy of History of Francestown (just the pages ref. Vose) which doesn't give Josiah's parents, but I could not find anything on Capt. Joseph (Josiah) marrying Margaret Rush only Ruhamah Vose and the only Josiah they had died young. I couldn't find anything on
the death date 7 Mar 1782 Leominster, MA in any of the records for Leominster. So, it is my belief that what you say is correct and until I find out otherwise have changed my master Robert Vose and his Descendants which I put into
PAF and Gedcom format.
Please see my Vose website www.voses.info
thanks, Charlie Vose

My lineage does not appear to be related to the majority of Voses, who are mostly descended from Robert Vose of Massachusetts. My first American ancestor emigrated from England in the 1850s, during his teens. He may have been distantly related, but he's not a descendant. His father's name appears to be John, and Elizabeth Vose Tasker may have been a sister, aunt or cousin.

Re: Voses in UK?

Hello Carole

I've just read your comments. I wonder if most Voses mentioned so far being in USA is perhaps because people in US generally tend to be more curious/active than their UK counterparts re geneological stuff? I googled 'Vose' out of curiosity (for some reason had vaguely assumed a 'French Connection' purely on linguistic grounds (?))since my maternal grandma's maiden name was Vose (she married and became a Dougherty; I was also told by my ma that an earlier ancestor on her side was a Mary Williamson from the county of Fife in Scotland). My grandmother and my ma (one of her daughters)lived in County Durham (coalmining/shipfitter Catholic folk, it seems). I think you mentioned Voses connected to you haling from the north-west of England - but not so very far from the north-east, I guess. I live in Birmingham, England, currently under the surname Trevallion. Take care and best wishes,

Michael

What are the birth years for some of these people. The Ellen Vose document covers family members up to the early 1930's. As you probably know it is not a document that is easily searchable. There are a lot of Roberts. I cannot locate any of the people you are referencing. When was Robert "Roy" Hobson Vose born?

My mother-in-law is Beverly Vose, b: 6/13/1923. Her father was George Francis Vose, b: 2/24/1892. Her grandfather was Robert Emery Vose, b: 2/22/1868. Her great grandfather was Robert Vose, b: 10/1824.

Hi there

I have just been updating all the info we have to include census info from UK where I can. Most of the Vose info is on my Dad's pc so I've been updating him too. I'll email you a file tonight when I get home from work. I have just been reading all the Paveley posts too. Very interesting, just off on a tangent slightly for me, sadly.

My line comes from Edward Mark Vose who was an uncle of your Francis Henry Vose. He emigrated to NZ in the 1870's I'll get the correct date before I email you the file. I live in Wellington NZ.

The Vose family seems to have had very strong links with the Navy and Army from what I can tell. I'd love to see some photos, we have a few of Edward and his children after they came to NZ but nothing further back that I am aware of.

Claire

I'm not sure we are talking about the same Vose family. Can you provide me with some birth dates for Robert and Clara? Most of the Voses that I have in my database arrived in South Boston and migrated south and west for a few generations. I do have some info on a Robert Vose b, beginning abt. 1555 in Garston, Lancashire, England. The first Robert Vose arriving in the U.S. occurred abt. 1666.

My mother-in-law is a Vose. She gave me a copy of publication that she has had for many years entitled "Robert Vose and His Descendants", compiled and published by Ellen F. Vose, Stoughton, MA in 1932. This Robert Vose was b: abt. 1599 in Garston, England, the son of Thomas Vose. He married Jane Moss 7/25/1629 and by 1654 they were living in Dorchester, MA. Ten generations and several hundred people later the author compiled an incredible amount of details about this family. The publication is 724 pages of single line, small print information through the early 1930's. This was a private publication that is out of print. However, I know that copies can be purchased on-line.

The first couple of generations settled in the area just south of Boston. Later generations tended to move south and west toward Milton, MA.

I have searched through the time period of the people you have asked about and checked the alphbetical listing of Vose names and no-non Vose names. I cannot find a reference to any of the people you are related to. There may be a connection in Engalnd prior to 1599. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Robert Hobson Vose was born in 1898. You state yours was born in 1824. Which line is this? My Robert's parents are Edward L. Vose and Florence E. Rockwell. If I can help I will if in fact we are in the same line. My tree is pretty thorough, and I have extracted much from the book as well. Robert Hobson Vose lived in New Hampshire and died in Pennsylvania. He married Clara Huber and had many children. Please confirm this is the same line.

Josiah Vose relating to his entry in "Robert Vose and His Descendants" by Ellen Vose

Page 69 of this book incorrectly lists Josiah Vose's death date of Mar 7, 1782. I hope that someone knows who can correct this incorrect data. He actually died May 4, 1843 in Francestown and was a well-known "hatter." This Josiah is the son of Nathaniel Vose III and Ruth Miller and has constantly been confused with Josiah Vose (Capt.) born Jun 16 1641 (who married Margaret Rush and Ruhamah Vose)and who is BROTHER to Nathaniel Vose III. The book of History of Francestown give the line of Josiah and his children, etc. He married Judith Coffin and had children Nancy, Judith, Elisha, Sally, Herbert and Mary Vose. I don't know why this error was ever caught, but I hope someone can have answers and provide the appropriate revisions. How was THAT 1782 death date obtained? Any information would be appreciated.

This is our great-grandfather's brother (Guy Rockwell Vose). I have many pictures on my tree, including Guy, Guy's and Robert's brother Carl and their father, Edward L. Vose. Would anyone happen to have any pictures on brother Robert Hobson Vose they would like to share? Or, maybe you have pictures of Robert's father Edward or siblings to share as well? Thank you.
Hi, Robert Vose (1898-1956)was born in Francestown to Edward Vose and Florence Rockwell. Clara Huber (1904-1987). Robert Vose arrived between 1650-1652 (the Freeman Application is where the date 1666 comes in...). Robert Hobson was my husband's great-grandfather's brother (Guy Rockwell Vose). If you get a chance to take some pictures of the burial site of Edward Vose and Florence Rockwell Vose, I would greatly appreciate receiving a copy of same. If you have any other pictures of Robert Hobson (Roy) or any others, I also would be interested. How are you related?

We are talking about the same line. The Robert Vose publication and Ellen Vose publication is available, I believe both via ancestry.com in their publications section, which I attached certain pages to my tree. Edward Vose, who married Florence Rockwell, was the son of George E. Vose, who was the son of Elisha Vose, who was the son of Josiah Vose, etc. This line goes up to Robert Vose. Your mother-in-law was the daughter of Robert "Roy" Hobson Vose?" If so, then we are related via marriage.

Hi Di

Havent come across Issac Voce/Vose as yet in my research but no doubt i will sometime in the future, was thinking of doing a One Name Study on Vose somewhere in the future so will look out for Issac.. Have you checked out the OPC for Lancashire
its a great site with many parish records for the area. I have been looking for Hugh Voses Birth/baptism in Rufford for an age but still no luck... Maybe he was born out of the area and moved to Rufford whilst still a baby, although tons of Voses are living in the Lancashire patch so maybe our men are related somehow!

Good Luck with your search.
Di
