I grew up in Zambia which used to be called Northern Rhodesia back in WWI. The NR forces fought Germans in Tanganika and NR during that war. About l,500 NR died, more than 400 during action in what is now Zambia. When the war was supposedly over on the llth hour of the llth day of the llth month, l9l8, the troops down in NR did not know. The German commander von Lettow Vorbeck was camped there when word reached him two or three days later. The British had a tough time convincing him the war had ended! He formally surrendered to General Edwards on about the 24th at Mbala.
So: Von Lettow Vorbeck was the only undefeated German general in WWI. And the last action of WWI occured after Armistice-in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia, Africa.)

Thought you might be interested in a little history connected to your surname. Might be fun finding out the "rest of the story".
