Volbrecht/Vollbrecht/Fullbright genealogy at 23andme

My anscestors were Volbrechts/Vollbrechts (Johann, Gottlieb, Louis, et al) from Fall Creek and Lincoln Township, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. We and several other descendants of that area are doing genetic genealogy with 23andme https://www.23andme.com. So far, families of Kaeding, Zamzow, Thiel, Garbe, Kaatz, and others are testing. We are looking for a male Volbrecht/Vollbrecht/Fullbright descendant who is willing to do the genealogy testing - 23andme testing also provides 250+ health and wellness reports for you based on your genome. So, if you or someone you know would like to test and join us, we are happy to share the family histories and combined genealogy information. Thank you for considering this - it will help us develop the family history in the period before 1824 and connect to the other Vollbrechts who came to America in the 1600's!. Thank you! Fred Blume (a maternal grandson of a Wisconsin Volbrecht)

Thank you for replying. I'm not sure if it helps or not to be honest. I have such limited information about the Vollbrechts and the Eberts. It would seem that if your August Vollbrecht was related to my Gustav Vollbrecht, it might be Gustav's father (or his father's age at least...) Do you know if August had a son or a nephew named Gustav? It just seems to be quite a coincidence, otherwise. :-) However, I am discovering that coincidences DO occur. :-)

Thanks!

On Aug 27, 1858, John, George and Martin Winter purchased land in Chickasaw Co. Twp 95, Range 14, Sects 1 and 2. In 1869, George and John deeded a part of the land to Martin. Believe these men were brothers or father and sons from Bavaria. George is my ancestor. He married Augusta Volbrecht on April 17, 1871. They moved to Floyd Co. Iowa before the 1880 Census.

I have not figured out how my Volbrecht's got here either. I mean I do not know the port and country yet.

So I guess we must be related somewhere in Germany. If I find out anything new, I will post to this message board. Hopefully we find something.

Once I found out about the spelling change, I also posted the other Vollbrecht site in hopes to find some new information.

But, other than my family in Wisconsin and a few in California, you are the only Volbrecht I have met.

Keep in touch.

This person is my great, great grandmother. She went by Sophia "Christiana Phillipina Sophia ZANZINGER? She married ALBERT HENRY VOLBRECT, however she lived and died in Wisonsin, so I don't think it is the same person. However, in my family everyone named their children after their ancestors, so maybe there is a connection. Sophia's daughters name was JOHANNA VOLBRECHT and I don't have much information on her.

PS - Thanks for posting to this new site.

My research begins here, when GODFREY VOLBRECHT and his family came to the United States in 1851. I am looking for the names of the 7 daughters he and JOHANNA CRANE brought to the United States.

Here is what I know so far.

GODFREY VOLBRECHT was born in Germany. He married JOHANNA CRANE. She was born May 27, 1831 in Brundenburg, Germany. They immigration to the United States in the summer of 1851, with their 7 children. Joanna was pregnant with their eight child when they came to the USA. As it turns out the eighth child was Albert Henry Volbrecht. All of her other children were born in Germany except for Henry.

Children (8) of GODFREY VOLBRECHT and JOHANNA CRANE are:

Son(s):

ALBERT HENRY VOLBRECHT, b. November 05, 1851, Watertown, Jefferson County, Wisconsin; d. June 27, 1926.

Daughter(s)

Names all unknown. In 1968 or 1969 one daughter was living somewhere in California and was 106 years old. One other sister died at 102 but where she lived was unknown.
Lori,

So good to hear from you. I really didn't expect to
hear from someone so closely related! I've also heard from Evelyn Theilen. What follows is what I've sent Evelyn and what I've posted to the message board for any others interested:

My Mother was born Alice Willien Schreiber to William
Albert Schreiber (b. January 10, 1898 in Charles City,
IA, d. March 04, 1991 in Park Rapids, Minnesota) and
Lucy Henrietta Clayton (b. November 01, 1904 in Money
Creek, Minnesota, d. December 02, 1991 in Park Rapids,
Minnesota). They were married on October 29, 1928 in
Walker, Minnesota. William's Father was Peter John
Schreiber.I have Peter's Father as Lawrence Schreiber
(b. March 07, 1840 in ?, d. June 24, 1922, buried at
Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, Floyd Co., Iowa. As
is his wife Anna Elizabeth Wright (b. November 16,
1839, d. January 19, 1911).

Sophia Lena Volbrecht (b. December 30, 1878 in
Riceville, Howard, IA, d. July 11, 1949 in Aurora,
Illinois). Both are buried at Glenwood Cemetery,
Glenwood, Pope Co., MN. They were married on December
22, 1897 in Charles City, Floyd Co., Iowa.

There is more info I have, but you probably have more
than I do. I'm also in contact with another person
that has sent me photos, etc, of my Grandparents.

How are you related?

Looking forward to your answer,

John
Johanna Katerine VOLBRECHT

My husband's thrid great grandmother is Johanna Katherine VOLBRECHT. She was born 1819 in Germany. In 1845, she came to America, sailed for 9 weeks. She lost her mother at the age of 4 and traveled with her married brother Henry Vollbrecht. They located first in PA, then St. Charles, MO, where she married Peter Doerr (1848). In 1851 they moved to Edwardsville, IL. A few years later they settled in Montgomery Co, IL.

Johanna had two children when she married Peter DOERR, Ludwig and Christina. I've often wonder if VOLBRECHT was really her maiden name or maybe from a first marraige. I can't tell by the childrens' names since they went by the last name of DOERR by the time I find any records on them.

Can anybody help me out?

According to my father, you are correct, the name was spelled Vollbrecht. He also has heard at sometime it was spelled Vollbrrechtt. Maybe this will help. No names looked familiar. My grandfather wasn't born until 1881. But he WAS born in Germany. What I can't figure out is how he got to the United States.

My parents are Thomas Howard Volbrecht and Wanda Sue (Isenhower) Volbrecht born 11-17-49 and 2-2-52 respectively. My dad's parents were Ida Melissa Volbrecht b. 7-12-12 d. 9-25-98 and Julius Volbrecht b. 3-11-1881 d. March 1960. I don't know how much that helps you.
