I started this forum not just for my own family, but for any Vojtechs that may need help out there.
Since I do not read Czech, I am hopeing someone that does may be willing to give assistance in tracking down some of my lost family records.
My Great Gandfather was John Vojtech who came from Cáslav, Central Bohemia, Czech Republic and was born on 24 sept 1865
His Mother was named: Aloise (Vesley) Vojtech and was born in 1843. I am unsure what my Great Great Grand Fathers name was other then "Pa" Vojtech.
They had 5 Children:
(John Vojtech) Born 24 sept 1865 (My Great Grandfather)
(Rudolph Vojtech) DOB unknown But was killed by a gamewarden for stealing wood around Cáslav (Possible to find anything indicating this?)
(Joseph Vojtech) DOB unknown
(James Vojtech) DOB unknown
(Anna Vojtech) DOB 1883 Anna was youngest Arived in America 1903 I believe Aloise and Anna came together.
Anything that you can find on them would be helpful and any links ect.
Also my Great Grandfather married:
Marie (Kosinova) Vojtech
We know nothing about her other than that she came from County of Chotebor in Village of Hornipocathy and was born on 8 Dec 1866. We do not know her parents or siblings.
We know that she married John Vojtech in 1890 in Bohemia, and came to america in 1893.
Also I chatted with jlmurray591

He stated:
Ken, what I find so far, or what I believe, is that the Vojtech's came from the area of Vrdy, in Caslav, more specifically Ronov nad Doubravou. I find that John immigrated from Ronov arriving in Baltimore on July 21, 1893, (*Note According to my family records and the 1910 Census, He claims he arrived in Chigago on 1 July 1891 We know he came over first to save up money to bring Marie (Kosinova) Vojtech over in 1893) destination was Chicago (remember that his son Otto was born in Chicago on Jul 14, 1895), sailing on the Polynesia. Am not finding Ronov records on line but maybe someone out there has a few tricks that I don't in finding the correct town. The town of Vrdy has quite a few Vojtech's.
Also believe that Marie Kosinova came from the town of Pocatky, a stones throw south of Chotebor. Can't find the record for it either.
The key to begin finding the correct data should be in the marriage record of John and Marie, which usually took place at the residence town of the bride.
There are several really good researchers out there and I hope they will pick up on my leads and offer to help.
Do you have the death certificate for John and does it contain his fathers name or birth place?
Do you have proof that Aloise came over?
Jean
I wish to thank Jean for the assistance he did provide already. But I am hoping someone can take up where Jean left off and provide some more solid leads. I am requesting for any records my home town may have on my Great Grandfather and Grandmother in hopes there is something that will state thier parents names. I will post that here when it arrives.
Also one last tidbit of family lore which may give another clue. It has been stated numorous times in the family since I was a Kid, that 1 or 2 of the Brothers were Bartenders and that at the time they had official Certificates of that. Anyway the story goes that they used these official Documents to get through Germany stating that it was their Visa's for travel. True or not, I dont know, just thats what we were told.
Any help and assistance or possible ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
Kenneth E. Vojtech
