My name is Katherine Carpenter, Hymen Allan Vogel was my grandfather whom I never met. I am the daughter of Jeanette Vogel Pritt. Grandpa Vogel had died prior to my birth but his memory lives on in our family. I too spent time in the same medical center u spoke of. The picture u speak of resides in my mother's home. There is so much folklore that surrounds this incredible giving man whom truly left his mark on this world that I too am curious to know what is fact and what is fiction or embellished realities. Every child/sibling of Grandpa Vogel seem to have different memories of not only their relationship with him but of that which is their perspective or reality. Nevertheless he was a positive force on not only his children, Garden City but the world.
To provide some more info: the reason the school was named after Grandpa Vogel was due to the fact that he was a powerful force on the GC school board. Sally was his adopted daughter as Eva Vogel, his wife was married prior, whom the story goes was a widow from Sally's biological father. Margie, Patty & my mother Jeanie was his biological daughters. Samuel Charles Vogel (aka) Uncle Sam is his only son. Hope this helps with your research & appreciate any FACTUAL updates regarding this incredible man whom all daughters agree would deliver a baby for a live chicken, & in turn would donate to a family in need. As during this time it was a fairly rural community where cash flow was not always readily available.
For whatever reason my mother Jeanie does not seem to have any desire to research the past Aunt P whom still lives in Garden City would be more willing to share her memories. Aunt Margie passed a few years ago. It has been my impression that given the age when his father died that Uncle Sam's information largely comes from his mother, my Grandma Vogel whom I was very close to although was also fond of rewriting history as she wanted or remembered it to be. Once again I am just looking for some truths about my heritage & it sooooo saddens me that when you google this man the only mention of him is via my childhood Dentist's family, Dr. Schidtt, whom was also a friend & colleage of my Grandfather.
