what a funny thing a google search will turn up....
my Opa imigrated from Germany in the early 20's (i believe) with the name Voge (yes, with an umlaut). i am told he changed it to the the spelling of Voege in new york when the umlaut did not translate. his name is Harold Voege. he was a butcher in long island who became, with my Oma (Olga Arnecke), a cow farmer in upstate new york...Glens Falls.
i don't know if any of this is related to the first inquiry, but maybe to the second, more general, inquiry.
i have always assumed that because there are so few of us, we're already pretty sure to be related at some point in the traceable past.
hope its helpful to someone.
