I am currently searching for any ancestors or distant relatives of the Vnuk name. My father, Adam, was an only child, born in Zastrani, Czechoslovakia(name at that time), I believe now Slovakia. His father John Vnuk and his mother Anna Javorik, both died when Adam was 2 and 4 years old. He went to live with his Uncle Josef and Aunt Irene Vnuk. They immigrated to Canada in 1937. Josef and Irene had 3 children when they immigrated to Canada; John, Vincent, and Mary. Anyone knowing anything about this family would be greatly appreciated. I am starting a family tree and would like to go back as far as possible. Thank you.

Hi Betty,
I'm John VNUK and my grandparents were Andrej VNUK and Mary JANICEK from Lysa, Slovakia.
I have records dating back to 1732 from Lysa. I would like to exchange data with you.

My VNUK family settled in Wisconsin in 1909.

I have church records with VNUK and JAVOREK.

So happy to get your e-mail. I have a brother whose name is also John Vnuk, and an Uncle John Vnuk...must be a popular name! I only know what my Dad had told me and that is what I searched with on the internet. He only has his parents names, no birth dates, no marriage dates or death dates. I really don't know where to go from here. I would be happy to get the information on the births/place and deaths/place of his parents. I suppose if you had my Dad's birth place and date, we can maybe make a connection. He was forn 18 May 1921 in Zastranie, Czechoslovakia. Do you know if that is anywhere near Lysa, Slovakia? I've tried looking for a map on the internet so I can locate Zastranie but am having no luch at all.

Do you still live in Wisconsin? We ended up in Manitoba (Canada). Anyway, please get back to me if you see any connection.

Many thanks and have a Happy American Thanksgiving.

Hi Kim,
Read your message on the Vnuk Surname Message Board.
My great-great-grandmother was Anna Javorek, born 10 Dec 1808. She was wife of John Vnuk. They were married on 13 Nov 1831 at Lysa. Anna's parents were Martin Javorek and Eva Misko, born in late 1700's.
If I can be of any further help, please contact me at anytime.

Happy hunting, John Vnuk

Hi Matt,

By chance I'm seeing this post you made here on ancestry.com. My dad's cousins are John and Tony Vnuk and also Magdalena is his niece I believe. Anyway they all came to Canada together on the TSS Statendam Holland America ship, first to New York and then to Manitoba Canada by train and settling in the Stonewall/Balmoral area. I have this passengers ship list from an internet archive I found. Here is the link below. To see their names in the list look in the third class towards the bottom of the page and you will see starting at passenger number 401 to 407. Click on the link below. Reply if you have more questions. Thanks.
