Hi Bruce
I don't know if this means anything, but my grandfather's name was Vlah, pronounced Vlak, he moved to Italy where they changed the spelling to Vlach, as to make the hard k sound they use ch.
He had a brother called Frank, who moved to Clevland, Ohio who kept the original spelling of Vlah. I am trying to find more info on this, as my mother's maiden name is Vlach.
Hope this is useful.

My great-grandfather is Frank Vlach, who came to Cleveland, OH. But the spelling has always been VLACH. He was born ca.1842, died in 1925.

I had a relative called Frank who lived in Cleveland Ohio, but he died much later, in the 90's I think. His Surname however was spelt Vlah. There is an Anna Vlah who still lives there, and there was an Olga. Where did your Great Grandfather come from? My Grandfather came from Kastav in Croatia, and he changed the spelling of his name to Vlah when he moved to Italy. I haven't had much look finding anything out. Are you from Cleveland? I wanted to get in touch with my American relatives, but have not had much time, but I shall do so soon. If you are from America, can I please take this opportunity to offer my sincere regrets for the tragedy of last week. It has touched the whole world, and my hope is that we all learn from this, and once and for all rid the world of these monster terrorists.

Rossana-
Yes, I am from Cleveland,OH. And we thank you for your well wishes. We are all paralyzed by the grief and sadness over what has occurred, and pray for wisdom in the days ahead.

My great-grandfather, grandfather and father are all named Frank Vlach. Here is the info on them:

GrGrandfather Frantisek (Frank) Louis Vlach: Born 4/1/1842 in Czech Republic I believe, and came to Cleveland. He died 3/25/1925.
Grandfather Francis (Frank) Louis Vlach Jr.: Born 11/9/1895. He died 8/19/1960 in Cleveland Ohio. He did have a sister Anna, born in 1892, who died quite young in 1921, as well as other siblings.
Father Francis (Frank) Louis Vlach III: Born 12/19/1928 in Cleveland OH.
Perhaps this is the same family? I do have a pretty good tree written so far that a relative has already done for that branch.
Please email me if you would like more information.

My father, Frank Vlach, born 1-21-1919, emmigrated to Cicero and then later to northern Indiana. He had a sister, Agnes Vlach Hutmacher, who raised her family in California with her husband Lee , Leo, or Leland. I am not sure of his name because both my father's brother, Lee, Leo, or Leland also married a woman named Agnes. So I had two sets of aunts and uncles in California named Leo,Lee, or Leland, and Agnes. My fathers parents were Kleofas and Marie Vlach, had 9 kids-Mary, Agnes, Betty, Anne, Victoria, Frank, Anthony, Joseph, Leland or Lee. They came from a town south of Prague that sounds like Jalobee. Is there any connection to your ancestry?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, we're a few years off. My grandfather immigrated to the US in 1909 via Ellis Island. He came over on the SS Wilhelm with his brother.

I have been able to kind out that my grandfather actual name was Vaclav.

Hello Kara,

I have just learned as of yesterday from my 1st cousin once removed on my father's side that my great great grandmother Anna had a brother Frank. Frank had a daughter by the name of Ernestina. Does any of this sound familiar?

If this is the correct family, Frank, your great grandfather would have been my great great grandmother's brother. They were from the Czech Republic.

Please get in touch with me if you would like to exchange trees.
