Would Abraham Vlach from Bohemia came to NY in the late 1800's ring a bell? Had a son named Arthur born in 1884. Abraham already had a son, Otto born in Bohemia. Abraham had 5 children. Will try to find out more?

My Husband's mother's family are Vlach.
His Grandfather was Frank Vlach, married Rebecca
Berry in Cleveland WV. Have Immigration record
showing Frank Immigrated may 1867, was 21 years of age
in 1874. Birth record from the town of Nova Hute, County
Krivklat, outskirt of Prague.. The "ova" is
female version of surname.

I have been moving, everything is packed up. I am not sure of any other Vlach's staying in US as the Uncle moved back to near Praque and my grandmother kept up with them until the war..let me check the names again. Oh, I found out that Vlach is the name of a Gypsy language group...does that mean we are gypsies?

I have also found that the name "vlach" is
a variation of Romany (or gypsy). I
suppose it is possible that many are
actually gypsies who came to this country.

I have pictures of my Grandfather from Europe.
The entire family has a dark complexion. I do
know that they owned horses and he was a
blacksmith in the Chicago area. So it is
possible for my family to be of that origin.
(By the way, the pictures show that the women
were also very beautiful.)

I am having a devil of a time finding my
family origins.
My grandfather's first name was James and
lived in Cicero. He had a brother named Frank
but have not found any relatives yet many
Vlach's live in the area.

I have a book that says Vlach is a name for nomadic gypsies.

The very first Vlachs were nomadic shepherds,
and were documented to be in the interior of
Bulgaria as early as 938.

I have continued to do additional research about the
family name, Vlach. While I have not found any thing
regarding links my family heritage, I have discovered a
tapestry of info regarding the Vlach name and
it's relationship to the gypsy culture.

To those with the Vlach name, as I have read about the
Vlach history in Europe, flashes of memory would
come to me. An example is that according to what I have
read, the Vlach Gypsies of Bohemia were
supposed to be performers and musicians. My
grandmother (I'm 58) would tell me when I was a very
young boy that her family was very artistic.
I remember her reminding me that if ever
anybody said anything about the Vlach
name, I was supposed to tell them that I
was a Czech Vlach! Very odd to a young boy
to hear such a thing but as I am learning
more, some of the pieces of the family
puzzle is starting to fit together.

I am still looking for my mom's family
so once again, my Grandfather's name
was James Vlach and he lived in
Cicero, Illinois. He had a brother
named Frank (also from Cicero). My
grandmother's name was Mary. Frank's
wife was known as "Toni" They live for
a time around 27th and East avenue in
Berwyn, Ill.

My grandfather owned a house at 1934
60th in Cicero which he built in
the mid to late 1920's.

I Have a family tree from my Vlach side, which shows a Frank Vlach, married to an Antonie (Tonie) Vlach as in your message. Frank was born in 1842, and died in 1925. Could this be a relative for which you are searching?
