And now another followup. Michael Vizard was indeed Victor's father. Victor was born the year after TWO of Michael and Mary's little ones dies of scarlet fever and cholera. I got to ask my aunt about Victor, and she remembered that he did NOT grow up with his family, but that he grew up "in the lap of luxury" with another family. Unfortunately for him, because he was not an heir, when that couple died, he was left to fend for himself.

I'm guessing that his mother couldn't handle another baby just barely a year after she lost a five year old and a two year old. But Victor was in touch enough to have been in correspondence with his brother Louis, born in 1880, who did get to stay with the family. It's a sad story.

My Michael Vizard GG Grandfather was in the 25th Regiment and then the 60th Royal Rifles in Canada in the 1860's and 1870's. He and Mary Rodgers married in 1865 in Montreal. My mystery is solved mostly on these folks. I am wondering now why he claimed a father from Louisiana. He claimed his mother from Maine. But I've got documentation and explanations from my older relatives that put him right with this clan, and a story that makes sense.
