There was no standard for spelling in the late 1700s when Thomas Viverett arrived in America. I have seen documents from that time with several spellings for the same person. Thomas signed his will with an X, so most people spelled it as it sounded to them. Thomas's sons Lancelot and Micajah went to TN in the first decade of 1800. Most of their children spelled the name VIVRETT. The youngest brother James, who remained in NC, spelled the name VIVERETT. The final E was added to these spellings around 1900. If the spelling is VIVERETTE, the person is connected to James. If the name is spelled VIVRETT or VIVRETTE, the person is connected to Micajah or Lancelot.
