Married a Mary Frammartino from Revere, MA whose father was William I Frammartino, a fruit dealer. Domenic and Mary eventually ended up in Cumberland, MD where they raised their children. Any Info would be appreciated as both his parents have died and little else is known

Looking for descendents of Raffaela and Catini Violante that lived in Fermo, Italy. The would have been born in the late 1860s. My great grandfather was their son Mariano Vilante who later changed his name to Mariano Caccarozzo when he came to the U.S. Mariano married Emilia Giovanna from Porto Civitanova, Italy. They lived in Porto Civitanova until they came to the U.S.

My mother's maiden name is Violante and her family settled in Chicago in the US. We have a cousin and family branch in Argentina and several in Italy (Trebisacce and Albidona in Calabria). A sister of my grandfather, Domenico Violante, settled in Brazil in the 1920s. Her name was Maria Francesca Violante and she likely was born in either late 1860s or early 1870s. I would love to find this missing branch of our family tree. Dominic Adducci

My father's side is Violante. I am just starting to look into the history. From my knowledge, we can from a town north of Lisbon called Foz do Arelho. After visiting there this summer I found that the Violante's of Foz do Arelho are known as the Violante plague to some, because there are so many from this town just outside of Caldas de Rainha. I am 25 and I was fist generation Canadian. My father's name is Fernando and mother's name is Rosalinda (maiden is Dias of Peniche Dias' family). My uncle is Michael Violante, my grandfather is Jose Manuel Violante and my grandmother is Maria Ermelinda Violante. They came to Canada in 1970 I believe to the Toronto area and have since moved back to Foz. We have expanded out to the Aurora/Newmarket area and now I have moved out to the Grimsby area. I would be interested to know if we are related at all

Hi Rick
Please check my post bellow (or above...)
I have family in Rio de Janeiro and recently I met a lawyer from São Paulo who, by shear coincidence, had a grandmother also called Violante. She was born in the north of Portugal, in the early 1800's who went to Brazil sometime after 1886.
I have been trying to search for his roots and at the same time trying to find out if we are related somehow...
It is exciting to find so many people with the same last name...

Hello Violante's of the World...
I am also called Violante.
In my case, my surname comes from my mother side. Her father's last name was Violante.
My grandfather was born around 1885 in the north of Portugal, Vila Real, Trás-os-Montes. I do not know exactly where my great grandfather was born, but I am trying to find out...
I also know that some of my great grandfather's relatives went to Brazil in the middle of the 1800's.
I have searched a bit about the surname Violante and I have found this last name in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, France, Italy and in a lot of States in the USA.
You will be able to find also the last name Violante in a lot of the Jewish Cemetery's which makes me believe that the origin of this last name may very well be from the Jewish community took refuge all over Europe and often changed their last name not to be recognized as Jewish.
I really would like to find out more about the origin of my grandfather’s name.
I am just sorry to see the surname Violante ending in my family… This is what happens when there are a lot more women being born then men!
Regards
Maria José Violante Linhares Dias

Re: Violante From Scafati Italy - settled in New Haven

My grandfather also came from Scafati,Italy. He arrived early 1900 and settled in New Haven, Ct. His name was Antonio Fiengo and was a barber. He lived in the Wooster Square area on Fair Stree and his shop was on Wooster Street. I am visiting Scafati on Sept 3rd to research his past. Unfortunately I don't have much information to go on but maybe when I go to Scafati I will find out more information. We don't know why he settled in New Haven and we are looking for releatives that may have been located here. In your research, do you have any information about your grandfathers releatives that may have the name of Fiengo? Thank you, Ciao.

My late grandfather in Italy was called Emilio Violante, his daughter Aquilina Violante is my mother.
Much of the family still live in the same place, Montefalcione in Italy, I go there most years, they were a very parge family and have settled in France (Raismes), Argentina, Montreal and the UK.
Could it be the same one ?
Bill

More....if I wish - I can hardly wait -- how exciting!!!! I am the biological daughter of Salvatore & his wife Mary Violante (she lived next door to Salvatore "Sam" growing up on Frazier Avenue). I was adopted as a baby (some family members are aware of that and some are not). I have been in contact with cousin Nora (daughter of Felicia) and she was so kind as to have sent me a picture of Tetanun and Nunna. She also sent me a picture of cousins Nora, Phiomena, Lena, Yolanda, Mary and Anna. She filled me in as best she could and I talked to her on the phone. I sent her some family record pages to fill in for me & I see listed under Anthony Violante & Santina Pitnato that Eleanor was born July 21, 1928 - is that info correct? I received a Christmas card from her and she is now living with her daughter Grace. I think I have found information on the grandparents via the Ellis Island Passenger Search when they arrived in this country etc. I also have some other things pertaining to Andrea. I would love to hear anything you know about Andrea and Eleonora & any other members -- Would also love to see a picture of you - what a great Christmas Gift this is finding another cousin. Please correspond via e-mail to: vickirossbach@att.net
I look so forward to hearing from you!!!
Your cousin, Vicki

I haven't checked the Violante message board for a long, long time, but here I am now. I do have some relatives that moved from Portugal to Brazil . I am guessing it was in the last 20 years. I do not know these relatives. But they are children of my fathers first cousins. My dad died 6 years ago. I recently spent time with one of my dad's brothers and I asked him why these cousins moved to Brazil. I was wondering if some of my family originated from there. He said they just moved because it was a Portuguese speaking country and that we have no family origins in Brazil.
My father came from a small village "Foz do Arelho", near Caldas da Rainha, and Obidos. Most relatives in town can give me the whole family tree back to my great grandparents, but beyond that, no one seems to know anything. I have been lucky enough to find in my dad's garage attic, my great grandparents original marriage certificate, and other paparwork just as special, but nothing earlier than that. I hope to return to portugal this spring.. I will ask more questions and if I discover any info about Brazil, I will forward it to you. Good Luck.

I live in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil) and my grandmother died when my mother was a little baby. My mother, who is dead too, had never known her mother' relatives and told me that they were from Paraguay, here in South America. As your father is from Portugal, perhaps he has any idea about the root of Violante in my country. My grandmother was Joaquina Violante Correa, born in Brasil and died between 1920 and 1924.

Hello,
In working on genealogy through the years, I find it not uncommon to see name chcanges in spelling. Even on records we found, "Violante" has different spellings (Violanda, Violenta, etc.).

It is likely that your Eleanor Cirigliano had a brother? ( my Andrew Cirigliano) who married my Maria Violante - possibly the sister of your Andrew Violante. The last names and area of Italy have to suggest kinship more than mere coincidence.

So far I have: Sam Cirigliano mar. to Maria Bellita (?)
Had Andrea (Andrew) mar. to Maria Violante
b. 9/28/1878 b. 2/2/1879
d. 12/1962 5/1970
m. approx. 1904

Andrew came to US May 13,1903 ship "Citta Di Torino"
listed under G. Andrea Cirigliano from Tursi. (according to Ellisislandrecords.com. Can't find Maria Violante Cirigliano on manifests, yet. When I get time, I try cross referencing).
They settled in NJ, eventually.

We know Andrew also had a brother, Sam who settled in Ohio. Not sure of how many other sibblings were in family.

I've only recently started searching the Cirigliano line, along with several of my husband's cousins. Let me know if you wish to exchange e-mail or snail mail addresses.
Regards

Good evening Carol - nice to hear from someone. Don't know if the same Violante or not - looks like you spell last name different - on all my researched records (death certificates, mariage, ships, etc.) spelling is ViolAnte. My grandfather was Andrea (Andrew) Violante. Andrea married Eleanor Cirigliano prior to coming to America. Andrea's father (my great grandfather) was named Guiseppi Violante and was married to Porzia Belluscio. Not sure if Guiseppi or Porzia made it to America - still researching that. My records indicate, so far, that everyone settled in Pennsylvania. Some of my records also indicate Matera - Bacsilicata. What exactly kind of records do you have? I look forward to hearing from you.

They were from Matera - Bacsilicata area. Have more specific info if needed. Any specific info from you is appreciated.

Hello to any fellow Violantes. I am the sixth of eight in my family. Four girls, each named Maria and four boys. My family history is vague. I am a second generation American. My grandfather, Faustino Violante was born in Mexico. He rode and fought with Pancho Villa. Ha Ha. I was told that his father came from Italy. That is unfortunately all that I know. He did have a brother named Valentino. He was killed under suspicious circumstances. Please let me know if you have information on our clan.
My father is Ralph Violante and he has an older brother Mike Violante and an older sister Esperanza. Their younger sister Connie died in her 20's-30's. thanks for your help!

Violante's of Portugal

In reading the current posted messages, it
appears most Violante's are from Italy. One
of you mentions one from Scotland, but
believes the name originated in France. My
father was born and raised in Foz do Arelho,
Portugal. It is located about 60 miles
north of Lisbon on the west cost. My father
was Henrique Antunes Violante. His parents
(my Grandparents)were Henrique Violante and
Gertrude Antunes. Henrique Violante's
parents (my Great Grandparents) were Joaquim
Violante and his wife Victoria. They were
all from this very small, beautiful, Portuguese
village, where i have been privileged to travel
many times. There are still old folks there
who were friends with my great grand parents.
I feel fortunate to know this much of my family
tree, however I often wonder where they came
from before this little village. I would like
to go back further. Portugal is somewhat of
a melting pot of nationalities. Because it is
one of the eastern most coasts of Europe, there
were many shipwrecks there. People settled
wherever their ship wrecked. In the north you
see decendants of the vikings, having lighter
hair, skin, and blue eyes. Further south there
are decendants of the Moors who are darker
complected. I hear that other countries who
wanted to exile their own people, sent them
to Portugal back in the early centries. So
my interest is finding hhw my family ended up
in Foz do Arelho, Portugal. Have any ideal??
Violante family

Hi Marie,
There are a few Violantes in the death index who died in Pennsylvania. Go to http://www.allonesearch.com/ and check off "People", then use the death index search engine. Ironically, my granfather, Emilio, copied a few things from your grandfather. He was reputed to have married a woman in Ansonia, CT after his young wife died. Then he supposedly left her for another woman in Ansonia, married or not, then left her and returned to Abruzzo, whwre we know he was with yet another woman who I later met when we went to Abruzzo. He ditched her and took up with another woman. Don't know how many cousins or other relatives from that relationship. Francesco doesn't ring a bell, though. Violante is about as common as Johnson, so it will be a tough search. Emilio was from Celano, Abruzzo, as was his brother Gabriel. I'll be publishing my tree on Famity Tree.com soon, so stay tuned.
