Dear Avleen,
I am going to tell you as to how we got Vig surname. My father that is your grandfather was born in Haripur Hazara which was in India before Pakistan was created. It is very near the Afganistan border. As per my grandmother thatis your great grandmother we used to belong to a tribe called Vinjan a royal family of that region. I donot know the real story as how the surname was converted to vig. My great to great grandfather could ride a horse faster than any known individual of that region so he was given the title of shah a great honor in those days that is couple of centuries ago This man's name was Blackie shah vig. We grew up from 1900's in Tanzania and not Kenya . Only my mum came from Kenya. The first person to go to Tanzania was my grandfather's older brother who was a very well known geologist and the first asian to be knighted that is given the title of sir. His name was Nanak chand vig I have seen him He died in London in 1969 at the age of 101 years.
