Have just received the following information, and wonder if anyone can offer supporting data:
Dr. John Viets moved to America from Holland sometime before 1710. He was granted American citizenship 18 Dec 1710 in Simsbury CT. His son was Capt. John Viets of the Revolutionary War, "military governor in charge of Tory sympathizers." I believe he served his post at a prison in East Granby CT, The son of Capt. John Viets was Seth Viets, also a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Seth Viets' son Rev. Jessie Viets founded the Methodist Church in Amboy OH. The Reverend's daughter Roseanne Viets married Carlisle Palmer. Their daughter married George Young. The son of Roseanne and George was Harry Young. He married Floie Belle Armstrong (descended from Armstrong/Smallhouse family of Cincinnati OH; b. 1870 - d. 1894) and had a single child, Edna Louise Young (31 Dec 1893 - 11 Aug 1978) with her. Edna Louise Young Stoerkel Vanderhave was my great-great-grandmother.
I would like to know about family groups to which any of the individuals mentioned belong. I understand there used to be (still are?) Viets family reunions in East Granby CT each year. If they're still happening, I would like to know!
