Canadian Vickerys - Chatham-Kent Area, descendants of William James & Thomas

Hi Everyone, I'm researching the history of the Vickery family dating back pre-confederation (1867). The earliest ancestor I've been able to trace is Thomas Vickery, born 1811 in England. His sons, Thomas and William (among others) settled in Kent County, specifically Euphemia and Bothwell. I'm trying to find William's children other than my great-grandfather, James. My specific questions are whether it's possible that any of the children got married without the records being deciphered and recorded onto ancestry.ca by now. I'm looking for any marriage records for Mary Istenia and Lavinia, but I can't seem to find anything helpful. I've found some records for marriages of what LOOKS like Mary or Lavinia's children, but I can't be sure because I can't find the actual marriage records or birth records of the children themselves. Any ideas?

I am Barbara Rice's sister - Louise Vickery's niece. I have a copy. I will share information. Much of my data is posted on FamilySearch.org which is a free site. It differs from Ancestry.com in that instead of individual trees all data is entered into one "tree" configuration. Anyone using the site has access to the information for all deceased individuals. The living are guarded by strict privacy features in the site programming. Anyone can (and is encouraged to) make additions and corrections to the individual person's data. It is requested that you document your corrections. You may put (any/all) of your entries on a watch list and weekly receive an e-mail notification of any changes. All participants on the site are encouraged to make their e-mail address public so that we "cousins" can communicate directly with each other. I must edit the entry for (as we call him) "shipwrecked" John Vickery (1716-1796). The shipwreck is what brought him to Bantry. The children are attributed variously to both "Bessie" Stanley and Catherine Swanton. My entries will attach my e-mail contact to both of the wives and all of the children. Thus you may contact me directly. 15 Jun 2015

Frank Leslie Vickery Sr - Texas

I've hit a brick wall tracing past Frank Leslie Vickery (b. 11 Jul 1883 Texas, d. 23 Dec 1916 Beaumont, Texas). The only reference with parent names is on his death certificate which lists his father as Aaron Vickery and mother as Mary Thames. I haven't been able to find anything else about them or if there were siblings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Marriage of Roger Vickery (b. Abt. 1685) in Marblehead, MA.

I have been working with the will of Nathaniel Hayward (b. Bef. 13 Nov 1642 in Salem, MA d. 19 Dec 1720 in Beverly, MA) who is my 8th great grandfather. Although I descend from his son Nehemiah Hayward (b. Bef. 10 July 1670 in Beverly, MA), I have been using Nathaniel’s will to learn more about the rest of this family. I seem to have hit a wall with Nathaniel’s daughter Hannah Hayward (b. Bef. 16 May 1680 in Beverly, MA) and cannot find the name of her husband. I have tried to decipher what is written in the will and have found that the others have interpreted the name as Vickery. I have not been able to find any information on a marriage using that name. However, I did find Roger Vickery (b. Abt. 1685 in Marblehead, MA d. Abt. 1761) who married Hannah [Unknown] about 1706 in Marblehead, MA. Again, I could not find a record of this. The names of the children of Roger and Hannah include a Nathaniel (Hannah’s father’s name) and Stephen (Hannah’s youngest brother born next after Hannah). The Vickery name is later found in Beverly. Another possible connection between the families is that Roger’s great grandson Knott Vickery (John, John, Roger) married Martha Dixey (12 November 1783), their children were born in Beverly and Nathaniel’s brother, Nehemiah Hayward, married Anna Dixey. If anyone has any information that would substantiate or refute this possible connection I would be very appreciative.

Thank you,
Stuart
Thomas Vickery [1822-1893] (Confusion)

I am looking at information about Thomas Vickery, who was born about 1822 in Elbert County, Georgia and died June 01, 1893 in Habersham County, Georgia. Some say that he was the son of Aaron Vickery and Amelia "Millie" Dodson. Now here is the confusion, according to my information both Aaron and Amelia died in 1819, so how could either one of them have a son that was born in 1822? Could someone please help me with this?

Thanks In Advance,
K. Chris Vickery

Hi Vick4157!

I am your 2nd cousin. I come from the John Bunyan line to your James Guy line. We are first cousins 2 times removed as our fathers were first cousins. I visited your Father, James in San Diego years ago. I have been able to go back one more generation to Emiline Vickery married William who dies in the Civil War. She drew a war widow pension after years of trying. Please email me back....sheliahv@hotmail.com. I am trying to get our cousin, Allan to do a DNA test for the male line. I am doing it for the female line as I really want to know if we really have Cherokee blood or not. I believe we come from the John and Marmaduke line who came from England prior to the Relv War. (I'm missing a generation) They made quite the name for themselves and their stories are available on line as they were the Regulators.

Georgia Marriages to 1850
about Joseph S. Vickery
Name: Joseph S. Vickery
Spouse: Sarah M. AL 2nd Cavalry
Buried: Beauvoir Confederate Cemetery, Biloxi, MS
Sources used by Historical Data Systems, Inc.:
- Index to Compiled Confederate Military Service Records
- Research by R. Ross Houston
2nd Regiment, Alabama Cavalry
That fits, as Beauvoir didn't become a veteran's home until 1903. What doesn't seem to fit is the story that J.S. Vickery lost the leg at Vicksburg. According to what I am finding is that he left the 2nd Alabama Calvary and moved to a Tenn. Artillery unit because his horse died and he couldn't afford another. That Artillery unit became a part of Morton's Battery under Nathan Bedford Forrest and fought at Brice's Crossroads, among others. If correct, he never was at Vicksburg. I'm closing in on his actual service record, but have not spent the money to get a copy, yet.

2nd Cavalry Regiment was organized during May, 1862, at Montgomery, Alabama. Its companies were from the counties of Calhoun, Shelby, Greene, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Butler, Coosa, Monroe, and Dallas. The regiment operated for a time in Florida, then skirmished in Mississippi under General Ruggles before being assigned to Ferguson's Brigade. Under this command it was active in the Atlanta Campaign, the defense of Savannah, and the campaign of the Carolinas. Later the 2nd Cavalry formed part of President Davis' escort when he moved southward during the last days of the war. It surrendered at Forsyth, Georgia, in May, 1865, with about 450 officers and men. Its commanders were Colonels John N. Carpenter, R.G. Earle, and F.W. Hunter; Lieutenant Colonels James Cunningham, Josiah J. Pegues, and John P. West; and Majors Richard W. Carter and Leroy Napier.

There were 1990 soldiers listed in this regiment. Three were Vickerys, J. S. Vickery, J. B. Vickery, and John Vickery

Pvt. J.S. Vickery, age 33, enrolled in Capt. Marks' Company, subsequently became Company K, 2d Regiment Alabama Cavalry, April 24, 1862 at Talapoosa, and is recorded present that date at Camp Stone, valuation of his horse $225, transferred to Capt. Rice's Tenn. Batter, Light Artillery by Special Order No. 161,by command of General Johnston, August 27, 1863, his file contains his hand written application to be transferred to Capt. Rice's as his horse had died and he " . . . haven't any opportunity of getting one, . . . " [His file contains no further information, believe he may be the J. T. S., he was captured December 6, 1863 at Sallesberrty, Tennessee [Germantown], he was admitted to the USA Post & Prison Hospital,Alton, Ill, January 5,1864 with Rubeula [Measles] and died January 7/8, 1864

2nd Cavalry Regiment was organized during May, 1862, at Montgomery, Alabama.
Re: Luke ~~~~1775

I am also looking for Luke Vickery but would be one generation older, I am thinking. Recieved 300 acres Craven CO, 1773-4, Jamey's Creek, South Tyger River. This is in Spartanburg CO SC. Neighbor whose land that bordered his, was William Young, also a land grant 1767, Tyger River, Craven CO, Jamey's Creek. Witness on his deed was Benjamin Woffard, who also had 200 acres, Jamey's Creek, Craven in 1769. Jamey's Creek is now called Jimmie's Creek and is near Woffard , SC. Luke is not listed in the 1790 Spartanburg census, either having moved or died. Any info appreciated. joangrenada@aol.com

Emilia===> 1816

I am looking for information about Emilia *Millie* Vickery who was born about 1816 and died about January 02, 1919 in Polk County, Tennessee. I am trying to figure out if Emilia actually lived to be 103 years old? Also I have that she married 3x; (1) Thomas William Vest; (2) Thomas W. Childres and (3) William Starnes. So does anyone happen to have any information about if Emilia actually married all three of these men?

Thanks In Advance,
k. Chris Vickery

Calling All Southern Vickery's ~~~~=======

I am trying for the first time to put together a complete listing(s) of all of the descendants of Joseph Vickery, who was born about 1735 died about 1838 in Carpetner's District, Elbert County, Georgia..

I know that there are people all over the internet that have said that Joseph's parents were Hezekiah Vickery and Merci Holland, but to be honest, I have not found any concrete proof of this linkage and for the sake of concrete proof, I am not adding these people to the file(s). I have a list of the descendants' surname, so if you are related to any of these people, and you have concrete proof of your information, and are willing to share your information with me, I promise to share what information I have gathered with those that are willing to share what they have..

Thanks In Advance,
K.
I don't see an email for either of the above posts. So I hope one of you see this. Rowallen Vickery, Sr. of Detroit is my Grandfather and Rowallen Vickery, Jr. of Detroit is my Uncle. I am the daughter of Gladys. I have been searching for my mom's other siblings and their children for sometime. The only one of my mother's siblings that I had contact with since I can remember is one of her sisters. Feel free to contact me: macha10000001@yahoo.com
I am doing genealogy for a high school friend whose grandmother is Anna/Annette Odom b 31 Oct 1897 d. 12 Nov 1989 in Orange, California. She married Joseph Barney Vickery and lived in Lee Co, Al in the 1930 and 1940 Federal Census. Annie's mother was Iva Cornelia Hood and there is a rumor that she was a relative of General John Bell Hood of the Civil War, but I know it is not from any of his children. Her father was Wm Henry Odom.
