Viands Researchers:

I have been doing research on the Viands family for awhile. While doing my research, I've noticed one thing interesting about "Viands" - it is a rare surname - so I've been able to piece together records from around the country. From this, I believe the majority of the Viands descend from Thomas and Nancy (Day) Viands out of Page Co., VA (with a few exceptions I have not been able to place yet). I met Robert Crawford over the Internet and he would like all the Viands researchers to get together and to submit materials for a book on the family history that he would like to print up and place in the Rockingham Historical Society. The Crawfords were close to the Viands in Rockingham Co., VA, and sold land to them for a cemetery that resides there. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~varockin/HRHS/cem/viands.htm) Robert and family put together a similar book on the Crawfords.) I live in Jefferson Co., WV, and I think they (and Page Co., VA) would probably also be interested in these materials. It might be a good thing to also post on the Internet for future researchers around the country.

What I'd like to do is see if we can share family files, look to see where the gaps are, and try to do some research to resolve them and get the most correct information out there. In addition to this, Robert suggests that we collect family pictures (of people, places, tombstones, etc.), documents (wills, marriage, death, birth records), newspaper citations (obits and stories), and other family stories or narratives to make the document richer. I am also interested including details of the female lines, which are sometimes harder to trace.

I am looking participants in the project to fill the role of:
1) Contributors: Researchers or family willing to share information, documents, obits, newspaper clippings, family stories and narratives, and pictures that they have for inclusion in the final book, and
2) Volunteer Researchers: Researchers or family willing to do additional research with me to fill in the gaps and try to solve some of the "mysteries."

Please e-mail me at jyork@frontiernet.net if (a) if you would like to participate and (b) if you would like to serve in the role of (1)"Contributor" and share what you have or (2)"Volunteer Researcher" and help me in further research to fill in some of the gaps.

I look to have this project complete by 7/31/03.
