There seem to be three major groups of Viaene's in Flanders - Belgium, and all three in the province of West-Vlaanderen. One concentrated around Ieper (Ypres in French and English) , one around Brugge (Bruges), and one around Roeselare. As far as I know, no link has been found yet between the three groups.
I am from the third line. My mother researched this line and got back until the end of the 16th century. She wrote a book on it, and I have just recently made an update and made it into some electronic documents (PDF files), but they are not (yet?) on the internet.
If you send me details, I can always check whether your ancestor is on this line.
On the other hand I also have a query: an aunt of my fathers (Emma Viaene) emigrated to the US, I found the record in the EllisIslandrecords of her immigration, but how to proceed further , I don't know. The reason for her immigration that is in these records, might be false. We know the she married again (she was divorced before her immigration) and signed on a badly preserved card as "Muniz" (or something similar) and had children. Anybody that can give me a clue?
