Almerico (Elmer) Veoni, age 94, a resident of St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge and formerly of Florida Ave. died Friday March 5, 2010 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born February 28, 1916 in Coal Hollow, Pa., a small coal mining town in eastern Pennsylvania. Elmer received his education in a one room school house and after elementary school, he went to work in the coal mines with the aspirations to one day own his own business. Following the marriage to his first wife Lena his dream came true. He purchased a building at the corner of Sixth and Wallace and opened Elmer's Market. He and his wife operated that store together for many years. Following Lena's death, he sold the store and for the next few years he would divide his time between Erie in the summer and Florida in the winter. He then married Margaret Koval, an elementary school teacher and they have been happily married for 12 years. Elmer's family would like to thank St. Mary's Home and St. Vincent Health Center for their wonderful care and concern. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Monday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul's RC Church. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. A parish vigil service will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
