"John Veon Dies At 92"
John Veon, one of the oldest citizens of Beatrice, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning at his home on South Sixth street at the age of ninety-two years. He had been ill for some time, having suffered a sunstroke several months ago from which he never fully recovered.
Mr. Veon was born January 3, 1818, in Pennsylvania, moving when a young man to West Virginia where the greater part of his life was spent. In 1888 he emigrated to the state of Iowa, removing in 1894 to Missouri, thence to Beatrice in 1897, since which time he had resided here.
The deceased was twice married, his first wife dying several years ago. He was the father of fourteen children. To the first union eight children were born of whom all but one survive. They are Mrs. J. G. Skinner, Pomeroy, Ohio; Mrs. G. T. Caltrider, Belleville, WV; B.N. Veon, Waverly, WV; J.W. Veon, Lecta, WV; Mrs. T. M. Hill, Amblersburg, WV; Mrs. Valentine Hanna, Samona, WV; Mrs. W. Deever, Burning Springs, WV. There also survive the second wife and five children born to that union, as follows:
John B.Veon, Oxford, NB; Henry S. and Russell C. Veon, Mrs. Otis Heffelfinger and Mrs. Herbert Palmer, all of Beatrice. Two children preceded him in death.
Mr. Veon was a devout Christian and a man with many friends here in Beatrice. He came of a family several of whose members were rewarded with extraordinary longetivity. His father lived to be 100 years old while his grandfather reached the ripe old age of 117.
The funeral will be held tommorrow morning at 10 o' clock from the home.
