Vena/Vene in Italy and San Francisco, California

I am researching a family with Italian roots, and it includes a woman named Pierina E. Vene, but with all my searching I'm not finding that surname and wonder whether we might be looking for Vena instead. I don't know where the family came from, but here's what I do know.

First, a woman named Theresa Ferrati married a man named Vene/Vena. Theresa's mother's maiden name was Pera. In 1918 Theresa brought her two children to San Francisco, California to live. They were called Josette (b. 1911) and Pierina (b. 1907). Subsequently, Theresa married Otavio Bonacci (some sources say it was Bonaccii). Josette married Robert Giamattei and had two sons and a daughter. Pierina married Antonio Demattei and had two sons and two daughters. This all took place, I believe, in San Francisco, and later Pierina and Antonio moved to San Mateo where Antonio worked as a florist.

I would love to find Italian roots for this family, and American cousins. I haven't done any research regarding Italy yet, this is my first try at it. Any help, any time, would be greatly appreciated.

Pat.
