DANIELS, ESTHER V. Esther V. Daniels, 85, of Clairemont died Sunday at home of heart failure. Mrs. Daniels was born Esther Marie Vehrs in La Grande, Oregon on May 20, 1918. Raised in Salem, Oregon, she attended Willamette University and majored in journalism. She married Walter H. Burgener, Jr. in 1940 and moved to San Diego in 1952. After her husband died in 1954, she owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Clairemont for 10 years. Later, she was an executive secretary with Copley Press in La Jolla until her retirement in 1975. She married H. Vincent Daniels in 1970. He died in 1999 and is buried in Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Daniels received a commendation for her civic leadership from the California Senate in 1983. Accomplishments cited included having been chairperson of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program advisory council, member of the board of directors of the Clairemont Friendship Center, chairperson of the Clairemont Women ' s Club, and a deaconess of the First Presbyterian Church of San Diego. Survivors include a son, Louis W. Burgener of Santa Ana; a daughter, Bonnie D. Warner of Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Private memorial services were held on Monday at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita.
