Is anyone able to throw any light on the association and or origins of the name Vefsey in the UK?
I am currently in possession of several documents originating from the Parish of South Kyme, Lincs. which appear to both confirm and contradict the spelling of the two surnames. One begins to wonder what the correct spelling of Vessey would have been had it not have been for the lack of the literacy skills of the public servants of the 1700 and 1800's.
I notice that the Vefsey surname has survived to this day (although it is rare) but it is of interest to me that our ancestors? from the one town appear to be referred to as both Vessey and Vefsey depending on which official document one is looking at.
I haven't gone into this theme in any detail yet but I have posted some info on my Vessey website on;
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vesseyoriginsinukI can provide additional info. on the Vefsey documents if anyone has a specific interest.
Cheers. Tony Vessey
