Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
I'm looking for descendants of Margaret Butler and Michael Veale who may have lived in the Carrick on Suir area of Waterford or Tipperary/Kilkenny border. My gm Margaret Mary Veale Prendergast, b. 1881 had six siblings. Her baptismal listing is Ballyglassoon, Co. Kilkenny, Templeorum. Any information greatly appreciated.

My grandmother was Mary Catherine Veale who I believe was Margaret Mary Veale Prendergast's older sister. She married William O'Neill in the United States and raised six children. Margaret Butler and Michael Veale would have been my grandmother's parents I believe. She was born in Ballyglassoon, Kilkenny near Piltown. It was in the parrish of Fiddown (now Templeorum). She had (a cousin perhaps?) here in the United States named Eddie Prendergast. Mary Catherine or Molly as they called her, spent her life in Cleveland, Ohio where I was born. She had a brother who was a priest in Albequerque, New Mexico. Please get back to me about this as it is very interesting and exciting to find someone in the family looking for us.

You should write to Tom Veale 120 Lindsay Road, Dublin 9, Ireland. He has been researching the Veales in Ireland for years. He has tons of information on them.

David - I'm Jeanne, your 2nd cousin. Your grandmother and my grandfather - James Patrick Veale - were siblings. It was JP Veale's SON, also named James, who was the priest in Albuquerque (my mother's brother). Only one of J.P. Veale's children - Kathleen - is still alive; I'll celebrate her 97th birthday with her in just 2 1/2 weeks. Bonnie - who started this thread - is also our 2nd cousin, and I uncovered her through yet another descendant of the children of Margaret Butler and Michael Veale. I'm not aware that anyone has been able to trace back further into either Michael or Margaret ancestry, however. I keep looking nonetheless. . . . .

Re: Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
Hello - sorry to be so late to the party, but my cousin sent me your link last year and I didn't act on it immediately. I hope you are still looking for "cousins." You will likely have heard from my brother, (David) Alan O'Neill. We are grandchildren of Mary Katherine Veale, 6th (I think) child of Margaret Butler and Michael Veale. Between us, and our cousin Bonnie Oberg, child of Margaret Veale, (the 7th or 8th child I think)we have a good deal of information to share, including pictures. If you are interested, please write me: I am the "tender keeper" of our family tree and can send you a link.
Best regards, Eileen O'Neill-Boyle

Re: Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
Eileen - trying to reach you and Bonnie, but your and her e-mail addresses I have from 2009 correspondence re: the Veales have bounced back. I'm heading to Ireland soon and hoped to connect before I leave. Can you contact me off-line through regular e-mail, please? Thanks! your 2nd cousin, Jeanne

Re: Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
Jeanne - I can't find your e-mail address anywhere! If you have my 2009 e-mail address, just change the carrier to verizon.net - instead of cox.net. It should reach me. I'll keep looking - say how soon you are going. Eileen

Re: Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
There are many Veale descendants that lived in the Carrick on Suir area. Sorry to say, your Veale family is not the same as my originally stated family. Also, it's very challenging to research when so many first and last names are the same with similar birth dates. Best of luck to you in your research.

Re: Margaret Butler -- Michael Veale in Ireland
Michael Veale who was the son of Michael Veale & Margaret Butler of Piltown / Carrick on Suir is not your Michael. The Veale/Butler son, Micheal - born 1873, emigrated to the US and was married to Nellie Porter. They lived in Philadelphia and Michael died 1930. They had a daughter - also Margaret - who was my godmother.
