My great-grandmother was Sara or sarah Blankenship, she married a Veal, they were from somewhere in north Georgia area from what my grandfather told me as a child(Charles Veal). He also told me that his parents were full blooded Cherokee Indians. I have been trying to find information on them since he has been dead since 1991.

Hi,
My Mothers' name was Eunice Faye Veal and her sister's name
was Lois. Interesting similarities here.
Mother's Mother is Sallie Linsey MacSwain Veal.
The maternal grandfather is Hector MacSwain.
I don't know much about the Veals.
My mother had an Uncle Burt Veal.

The name "Blankenship" came from Northumberland, England. To this day there is a Blenkinsop Castle in that area. It was not unusual long ago in this country for Native Americans to adopt "white man's" names in order to "blend in" with white society. Also, at one point in US history, after Native Americans were put onto reservations, US government tried to take Native American's culture away from them by refusing to let them speak their language, wear their native clothing, made to cut their hair like whites, and many were adopted by white families.

I am related to Ezra Veal through his his wife who was my great aunt. His son, William (WB or Red) died about two years ago. His son, Christopher Eric, died in 2005 (I think or 2007) from heart problems. Chris' children live around Ider, AL. I am in contact with two of the three of them. Jon
