My G Grandmother was an Ann Veal who married a Richard Ellis.
I have just started researching the family using certificates I have.
Regarding Veal with or without an 'e', you have to remember that many people in the 1800s could not read or write, so it was up to the scribe (census or parish records), and how 'broad' their Cornish accents were. I have found some real howlers!
I found a marriage of a Miss VEAL, and her father was a witness and his name was Mr VEALE.
My maiden name was Ellis. My grandfather Ellis was a farmer rather than a miner because his Aunt Maria Veal lost her husband, so the 17 year old nephew 'next door' went over to work on the land. He stayed with her for about 12-15 years before renting a farm for himself. My father took over the farm at 20 when his father died.
I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they have links with either the Ellis family or the Veal family. Christian names were the same generation after generation - Samual, James, Thomas, Richard, Margaret, Elizabeth, & William.
