Charles Zemaitis has a wonderful Lithuanian surname reference source web site. His address is: http://www.webmart.net/~zemaitis/coment2.htm, and similar pages. His E-mail is: zemaitis@fgi.net. Anyway, he writes about our Vazgirda/Vosgirda ancestor surname meaning: "Vazgirdas is a rare, if not extinct surname--only one existed in Lithuania circa 1989. Vazgirdas is connected in origin/meaning to Vosgirdas. These names derived from the root "vos-" and "gird-" the root is in girdeti, "to hear," girdas, "hearsay." It is difficult to determine how these Vazgirdas developed form these name roots. It appears that the names were connected somehow to hearing and/or to be heard."
