Frederick P. Vap of McCook, age 71, died Wednesday at the Community Hospital of McCook.
Mr. Vap was born Feb. 22, 1910 north of Atwood, Kan. to the late Fred and Frances Vap. He grew up on a farm north of Atwood and came to McCook in 1935. He started Vap’s McCook Seed and Hardware Company and was active in the business until his death.
Mr. Vap was married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Frontier County Jul 26, 1938 to Irene Jane Traphagan. They have made McCook their life’s home.
June 20, 1953, Mr. Vap received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award for establishing Midget Baseball in McCook. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of McCook; Knights of Columbus, McCook; and McCook Elks Lodge 1434.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of McCook; four sons, Douglas F. and Gerald L., both of McCook, Dr. J. Gordon of Chevy Chase, Md. and John T. of Loveland, Colo.; three brothers, E. J. Vap of McCook, Joseph F. of Atwood, Kan. and John of Boulder, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

His father Fred (1869-1936) was the son of Frank Vap Sr and Mary Kadlec. His mother Frances (1879-1939) was the daughter of George Pochop and Anna Chyba.
