I've searched our Vanderpool databases and found only two George Vanderpools born ca 1840 and the one whose mother was Sophia had a brother Frederick "Fred" born in 1834 Fulton County, NY wo married Nancy Helen Odell 19 Aug 1858 in Mayfield, Fulton County, NY
This George appears to be the youngest child and he married Helen M. Case 11 August 1868 in Mayfield, Fulton County, NY. There appears to be three older children -- a Catherine born about 1826 in Albany County, NY; a Gertrude born ca 1831 in Albany County, NY; and a John Jr. born in Bethlehem, Albany County, NY wo married an Angeline Brown.
They appear to be the children of a John Vanderpool (1796-?) and Sophia Van Heusen (1799-after 1880).
However evidence is lacking for this couple [John and Sopia] for marriage and I have been unsuccessful thus far in find graves or death records for eiter of them.
I suspect John died before 1850 census as only Sophia and George appear together in the 1850 Amsterdam, Montgomery County, NY censuses. I do not know where Frederick or John Jr. were in 1850 either. If their father was deceased, they may be found living with others as they were 17-,18-year-old boys at that time. The older girls were probably married before 1850.
Sophia is found with Frederick and his family in 1860 in Fulton County, NY censs; in 1870 Sophia is in same county with oses and Phee Remney and in 1880 Frederick and his mother Sophia are living in 1Mayfield, Fulton County, NY. Frederick is listed in 1900 census in Gloversville, Fulton County, NY, so that narrows the date of death of Sophia to some time after 1880 and before 1900.
If graves of Frederick of Sophia can be located they might provide additional information, especially's Sophia's, which might list her as a widow of ______.
If this correct line, John Vanderpool (b. 1796) was the son of Gerrit vanderpool (1762-1821) and Maria Van Buren (1765-1836.
Good luck with your research.
