My husband is a Vancil. His family came from Union Co. also. His grandfather was James Vancil- died in Tulsa. He believes his greatgrandfather was Edmund Vancil which should be a decendant of Jonathan Vancil. We have info here but too late to get it out tonight.

Dorothy, I have a little info on the Vancils from Union Co. IL. Adam, the last son of Johnathan Vancil, is my g-g-g-g-g grandfather. I believe that Adam and Jonas were brothers. Dorothy, Jonathan Vancil is my gggggrandfather. You mentioned Jonas was the 4 son of Jonathan. According to my records he is the 5th son. There was Tobias (1769), Daniel (1770), Samuel (1771), John Jr (1773) and then Jonas (1775). Followed were Mary, Elias, Edmond, Catherine, Isaac and Adam. Jonathan is the son of William Vancil-Wentzel of Hessen Hanua, Germany born 1703. Have more info but need info also. Jennifer

Vancil born 7 February, 1802, in Virginia. I do not know to whom he married. Might you have the information? His father was John Vancil born 8 August, 1776 in Pennsylvania. He married Eve Weddle. John's father was Jonathan Vancil. Born about 1745. Do you know more?

Jane John Vancil Jr. was brother of my ancestor, Edmund. John was born 7/8/1773 and Edmund 2/7/1783, both in the region of Somerset, Pa. John had a son named Edmond D. Edmund also named a son "Edmund" (b. 1812) and this Edmund's son (b. 1842)was my great grandfather (he is buried in Piggott, Ark.). There is very interesting material on Vancil (Wencil, Wensel) in the "History of Bedford and Somerset Counties" ( Pennsylvania). My husbands Great Grandmother was Susannah Vancil who married Francis Marion Underwood, in Union CoIL, Rachel Landreth Vancil Halloway was her mther. The Wentzel Line is from Palentine Germany and Jonatan Wentzel was in the Sons of Liberty and had a price on his head by Gov Tryon. A Mr Doty has written a wonderful book on the family. Beverly Underwood, No, Beverly, I do not have photos except of property in Virginia which the Vancils owned. I have not been in contact with June Williamsfor several years. Somerset County, PA has an interesting web site; under "History" they men- tion " Vensel" and " Penrod." Also there's a picture of Herman Husband's house. Vancil sold property to Husband. I don't know if this house is located on that same property. Both Vancil, Penrod, and Husband were all brought up on charges for rebellion against King George. Edmund "Vancill" can be found in 1810 Montgomery Co., Virginia. He is noted as being b. 1776-1784 with a female of the same age. An Edmund was also noted on the 1771 1772 Tithable Lists 1787 tax list. A John Vancel's son, also John, m. 11-5-1795 Montgomery Co., Virginia, Eva Weddle d/o Benjamin Anna Maria Eiler Weddle, b. 1-15-1771 Frederick Co., Maryland, d. 10-27-1859 BUT WHERE? John Eva reportedly moved to family moved to Illinois, probably bef 1810 as they are not noted in Virginia. If anyone comes across a connection to the Virginia Vancil/Vancel/Vansel, please let me know. Thanks.

Is there a John Vancel in Morgan Co., Illinios in 1850? Or a close county? If he's there, it's a good possibility they are related maybe father/son. "Adam" is common given name of the VA Vancel's. Otherwise, can't help you any further. Sorry.

i show jonathan on powell gedcom: page 769 as having several children,about 11 but as many as 6 of those are duplicated as children of john vancil and eve weddle with birdays from 1796 to 1813. jonathan children birthdays show dates of 1769 to 1785. does any of this make sense. did jonathan have a son with the spelling of johnathan? darrell

I just learned that Edmond D. was my GGGGrandfather. His son Allen, then his son John Allen on down to my grandfather still living at 90 years old in Goreville, Johnson Co. Il. I have information that place Johan's son John her in Frederick Md. where he married Mary Penrod, and gave birth to one of many children John Jr. Do you know anything about this? I live in on a farm near Kewanee,IL ( Henry Co.) I have relatives living in several counties in So. Il. Hi! Your Rachel is a sister to Jonathan Landreth who is the Father of my lineage in Jonesboro, Illinois. They settled in Union County. I am a Landreth and have recently started tracing that side of the family. The Vancel Landreths, I think are from Benjamin LandrethWho is Rachel's grandfather, great-grandfather, etc? I have traced such names as Jedidiah Baxter Landreth and Oliver Landreth who came from Northumberrland Scotland. Soed this sound correct? I have that McKindley Downs married a Thomas and then Jedidiah and came to VA from North England. Wonder if this is just a mistake. The information I have is from the Latter Day Saints. This information lists a John Vancil being born to an Edmond Vancil that was born in Prussia about 1725 and died June 15,1815 in Montgomery, Virginia. No mothers name is recorded. John Vancil was born 1747 in Patrick, Virginia and died 1817 in the same town. He married a Mary Penrod on May 17, 1768 in Maryland. This is were I believe our information matches. They had 11 children. Tobias, b. 2/13/1769 in Maryland, Daniel, b. 4/8/1770 in Penn.,Samuel, b. 11/8/1771in Virginia, Jonas, b. 10/01/1775, Maryland, John Jr., b. 8/8/1776, Maryland, Mary, b.6/20/1777, Penn., Elias, b. 5/18/79, Penn., Edmond, b. 2/7/1783, Penn., Cathrine, b. 7/20/1785, Viginia, Isaac, b. 11/26/1787, Virginia and Adam, 3/6/1790 in Penn. Then Jonas married and had Cathrine, b. abt. 1795 in Virginia, Isaac b. 1800 Kentucky, George, b. 1805 in Jackson Cty, Il, John b. 1808, Jackson Cty, IL, Josephus, b. 1809 Il (Two Josephus names could mean a child died early), Mary, abt 1811, Jackson Cty, IL Josephus, 10/07/1812, Jonesboro, IL, and Daniel, abt 1813, Jackson, IL.. I am a decendent of Josephus and Susanna Eunas Snider. The had Tobias b. 2/25/1831 in Du Quoin, Perry, Il., Elijah, 9/4/1832 in Du Quoin, Mary, 8/15/1836, in Du Quoin, Sally or Sarah, 7/28/1837, Du Quoin, Matilda 12/25/1839 Du Quoin, Electa, 1/19/1841 Du Quoin and George Washington, 3/20/1843 in Du Quoin. Hi Judy, Yes, I would like to see your info and compare it. My ancester is Tobias(son of Josephus). I have relation still living in Perry County Have been there numerous times. Ther is a Vancil Cemetery outside of DuQuoin and have been there several times. Have photos taken there. Josephus and his wife(#203 Don`t have my info in front of me) are buried there. Susan Eunice is buriied in the McElvain cemetery(don`t know why) and I have yet to go there. Both spellings of Josephus-Joseph are correct. Tobias had a son named Cluria and he is my grandfather. I have a copy of Jonathon`s will. Please reply. I`m not on the computer much at this time as my husband had surgery for a brain tumor in Dec. and he still needs a lot of attention. Dorothy

I am a Vancil from Piggott, Arkansas. I just started trying to find my ancestors and discovered that Edmund is my GGGG grandfather. I am the daughter of Dallas Vancil, son of George Washington Vancil. I was at the cemetery in Piggott a couple of weeks ago, but at that time I didn't know to look for Edmund.
