In the fall of 1998 I wrote a paper on Mary Louise Pierce Van Zile, First Dean of Women at Kansas State Agriculture College, now known at Kansas State University. She was born on February 7, 1872 to Lyman B. and Lea Ann Bandy Pierce of Solomon, Kansas. Van Zile completed her elementary and secondary education at Winfield, Iowa. She married Gilbert Van Zile on December 28, 1892 and they had two children Ralph Pierce and Loren Gilbert. Gilbert Van Zile practiced law in Carthage, IL until his death in 1899. Mary Van Zile served as Dean of Women from 1908 - 1940. She died November 11, 1949. Both Ralph and Loren attended Kansas State Agriculture College while their mother was Dean of Women. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what happened to Ralph and Loren after they left Manhattan, Kansas. Any other information pertaining to Mary Louise Pierce Van Zile would also be appreciated. For the record, there is a dorm on the K-State Campus named Van Zile Hall.
