If they visited somewhere near Detroit, that might indicate they had migrated from the Isthmus of Onterio. A large number of Loyalist Van Dusens settled there after the American R-War. Apparently there was a railroad from Hamilton to North MI through Detroit when MI was opened for homesteading. More took the offer than stayed. Wynsandt VD is one of the more unusual names of the largest related VDs of that area. Most moved to MI when it opened. The problem is there is few public records for this region at that time. Another problem is my VD claimed on all paperwork than he was American born. They may have needed to lie to get homesteads. N and W NY also had no public records and without computers they couldn't be verified. This makes it VERY hard to trace back to CA. The only helpful info is that they often used VD family names.
PS Wynsandt was a miller so was their neighbors on the same fast running stream, the Davis family. The Davis mill stone is displayed at the top of Albion Falls where both families lived, distant cousin. Good luck trying to find your way back there. Concentrate on Wynsandt and his families migration path.
I have found some photos. The millstone may have been you ancestors.
