Dave

Have just seen your thread re above. If I have seen it before then I had disregarded it as my Valentines all come from the Northamptonshire region in England. I have, however, recently found out that one branch of my family did migrate from there to Lancashire (apparently a stronghold of Valentine families)via Derbyshire.

They were William Barber Valentine b1867 in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Elizabieth Valentine b1864 Hurdlow Station, Hartington. She married a Thomas Woodward (born in Everton) and had five children Frederick, Thomas H, Ethel, Marion V, and John O.

Thomas is a stong family name in our branch.

I know it is a long shot, but should you come across information on any of these during your research I would be delighted to hear from you

Regards

Marcus Valentine

The previous posting appears to have been from Dave Valentine (presumeably somewhere in Lancashire).

All of my family come from the Northamptonshire area, though I did have one branch go to Lancashire via Derbyshire. I must ask Dave about them

Regards

Marcus Valentine

Hi, I just noticed your post and would just like to check a few details with you regarding Thomas Valentine (1924, Colne). My grandmothers name is Mary Teresa who I believe is Thomas's sister - there are also sisters named Joan, Veronica, Margaret, Philamina and Veronica. Their parents names were Thomas Valentine and Mary Ellen Mullens.

Please let me know if this corresponds with the information you have and forgive me if it doesn't.

Regards,

Melanie Hodson

Elizabeth Valentine b. abt 1674 m. Anthony Cozart in 1662

I've run into conflicting information about the parents of Elizabeth Valentine, who married Anthony Cozart in 1662 in NY.

Some sources say Elizabeth was the daughter of Valentine Claesen and Marretje Jacobs. Valentine Claessen used name Nicholas Valentine (Nicholas is the anglicized version of Claessen). Valentine Claesen and Marretje Jacobs were from the Netherlands, who settled in Westchester County, New York, and are said to be the Dutch progenitors of the name Valentine in America.

Other sources say Elizabeth was the daughter of Jan ("John") Tymenson ("Timothy") Valentine and Catherine Tamamizer, who were most likely descendants of the Valentine family from England.

Does anybody have good evidence to support either theory? Poor Elizabeth needs the right parents!

Please post reply or email me directly at lah.organize@juno.com.

Hello,

I am working on a family tree online. My grandmother's maiden name was Valentine and I believe my family descends from Daniel Valentine (born 1796), who I believe was the son of Absalom Valentine (born ca. 1774) and grandson of Thomas Valentine (born in Oyster Bay, NY; don't have a year). Thomas Valentine was the son of Obadiah Valentine II (born 1690, son of Obadiah the first). Can any of you tell me if you have additional information on the Obadiah Jr.'s descendents? I'm trying to confirm my line. I also would love to hear about how you all obtained all the information you have on the Valentines! I've found some conflicting information about this family once it gets back to the Obadiahs and Richards. :) Any further information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Kevin

I am helping a friend with their genealogy and they just had DNA tested that matches the Valentine surname. The line has tested as being from Scotland. This family in 1850-1860 were from Jackson and Overton Co., TN. Prior to this the family was in Eastern TN. If you have further information on the Valentine's in these areas, please contact me at colmall@msn.com

Thank you,
Judy
Thank you so much for your response to my post. I found your list in the past and that is the only Information that I have found on J. N. Hudiburgh. He was my G G Grandfather and Phebe Valentine was his second Marriage. I also found the Marriage of J. N. Hudiburgh and Mattie Nolan on the same website. Mattie must have died or they divorced. I can find no other records of her.

Thank you so much again and I would have had no Info at all if it was not for you.

Virginia

My step children's ancestor's Bray. What I have been told: Everett Bray . Was found in a ditch in a plowed field somwhere in Texarkana, off a highway. The baby was abondened by a fancy coach which had two women and the driver in it. Family believe it was in about 1850, he was about 4 months old. The farmer who was plowing on the other side of the field saw the coach stop. By the time he got over by the shade of the old oak tree the coach was gone. When the mule got under the tree it would not move. So the farmer went to the head of the animal and that is when he found the baby. When he reached down to pick up the baby the mule brayed. And that is how the family got the name of Bray.??? My step son said his mom thought his first name was Everett. Everett was said to have married a full blood Cherokee lady whom he meet on the reservation in Oklahoma near Stillwater. Was also said Everett was a scout and guide for the settlers moving West.
The step kids Mom's father's name was T.J. Valentine, guess family was from Ireland.
Hope this answers a few of your questions. How true the story is is anyone guess. Jean
