Hi Cousin Howard Jones,

I've been studying the Ancestry.com Public Members of Samuel Vallance b. 1780 in New York and along with my own (our) research, I found the following items interesting, but need more research:

John Vallance b. 1754 and d. 1805 Evergreen, New York. New York Genealogical Records 1675-1920. The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (quarterly-1929)- Extracts. New York, NY.

"I can't find the cemetery, but still looking and why he would leave New York City?".

Revolutionary War Land Grants of William Vallance Sept. 13, 1790. 500 Acres left to his heirs. "Many cousins believe this is the father of our Samuel Vallance". "Well, many cousins say Samuel's father was named William and he owned 500 acres in the heart of NYC." If this is the same William, I have studied, he had a brother David and a brother John. If this is the same William, his father was Samuel Vallance from CT. Now, this adds up to me.... What do you think?

"Fire Cake and Water" John Vallance, Private, eight months, Fifth Prior, Dec. 1777 on Command Jan. 9...Discharged 1778.

1790 N. Hempstead Queens, NY Census Records shows John Valence.

1800 NY Ward 7, NY NY shows John Valance.

Elisabeth Southard b. 1768 in North Hempstead, Nassau, NY. She died in 1795 in Hempstead, Livingston, NY. She married John Valence, Nov. 17, 1782 in New York.

"There is a Robert Vallance from Livingston, NY but I'm just not so sure if this is the same Elisabeth Southard, because she had an Aunt named Elizabeth Southard. Further research is needed". Let me be clearer, I'm not so sure this is the same Elisabeth Valence that married John Valence in Nov. of 1782.....

"Also, this Robert is claimed as Scottish, and apparently we are not, or at least no one claims us"... l.o.l. "I also am a direct descendant of the Thomas Southard lineage from Leicenshire, England. " I also found more records on this Robert Vallance and he was 20 years old when he arrived in America in 1820. Too late for our lineage. I'll post this find on our site.

Daniel Benedict, son of James Benedict b. Sept. 14, 1797 and m. Nov. 30, 1819 and d. in Glen Falls, NY March 20, 1867.

Daniel Benedict married Hannah Eliza Vallance b. April 18, 1799 and she died August 28, 1869. Hannah Eliza Vallance is the daughter of John and Elisabeth Vallance m. Nov. 17, 1782. No other children are found in my (our) research. This would make Samuel and her sister, 17 years apart. Unlikely? huh? Samuel would also have to be already born before John and Elisabeth got married. Again, not likely.

Does this Hannah provide us another clue as to "Eliza" being an Eliza Vallance living in NY at the time? The Vallance line of Albany, New York?

I just don't think our Samuel is the son of John and Elisabeth Southard-Vallance. They might be kin, but it just doesn't add up to me.

Samuel Vallance War of 1812, Private, Discharged April 30, 1814. Roll of Captain Joseph C. Belts Company- US Infantry- Appointed Jan. 1, 1814

Also, in 1814, our Samuel Vallance is a registered Voter of Kentucky.

We'll keep trying. Hoping someone reading this can contribute. Bledsaw@verizon.net
