I am also trying to research Vahey's from County Mayo. Unfortunately, neither of my known ancestor's family members match yours or Monica's. My gr. gr. grandfather was Anthony Vahey (born 11 April 1812 in Kilkenny) he married Bridget Goulden (born February 1832). They were married in 1850 at Balla, County Mayo, Ireland, possibly at St. Cronans? I do not know names, if any, of Anthony's brothers or sisters. But James repeats itself many times in our Vahey family tree. Their children were born in Ireland, one of which is my gr. grandfather John Anthony Vahey. He was born on 11 January 1857 in Kilkenny and eventually found his way to Jefferson County, Missouri. I do not know names, if any, of his brothers or sisters either. Quite possibly the people in your family trees are related since Vahey is an unusual name. St. Cronan's original church was destroyed, do you know if any information such as baptisms can be found at the Diocese of Tuam in County Mayo?
