Vacanti families in Omaha, NE
My grandmother, Rosemarie and her three sisters, Carmela, Phyllis and Connie lived in Omaha after living in New Orleans with their parents, Filidelfo Vacanti and Maria (Conti) Vacanti. My great-grandfather worked for the Pacific Railroad and learned to speak English by reading the newspaper.
There is a fair amount of family remaining there.

Re: Vacanti families in Omaha, NE
Jessica, I am researching Providenzia Vacanti, who lived in Omaha and came across this post. The names that you mentioned don't match what little I have, but I was hoping you might be able to shed some light for me.
The only thing I know for sure is that Providenzia Vacanti b. 29 Apr 1887 in Italy, d. 16 Jun 1964, married Santo Bonacorrso and lived in Omaha. I have her parents as Alfio Vacanti and Lucia Circo. Most of the parental information is based on a birth certificate for John Alfio Vacanti who married Grace Puglisi. I believe that John is Providenzia's brother, but I haven't been able to confirm that.
If any of this rings a bell, please let me know. Al

JoAnn Carbery
I live in Scotland daughter of Rose Marie Pirruccello . My grandfather Antionio Circo Pirruccello b 1877 Carlentini is the son of Lucia Circo and Sebastiano Pirruccello. Lucia married a second time to Alfio Vacante -- both from Lentini and who migrated to Omaha Nebraska in 1907. Would Providenza Bonaccorsi born 1887, migrated 1905 with a daughter Lucia, be my grandfather's half sister. I know we had several relatives named Vacanti or Vacante including Uncle John who had a grocery store in Omaha.
Thank you

Re: Vacanti families in Omaha, NE
JoAnn My 3xG grandfather was Andrew Francis SIRKO born c.1801 in Shadwell, London. His father, Andrew Francis SIRKO [senior] was a mariner but I know nothing else about him. It was suggested to me some time ago that he may have been from Sicily [although the spelling would have changed].
Andrew Francis junior's daughter married John MANGUECAVALLI born in Italy c.1799. His father was Guiseppe MANGIACAVALLI.
Most, if not all, the CIRCOs I have found on the Ellis Island website appear to have originated from Sicily, many from Lentini/Carlentini or Casteltermini. The closest match on the MANGIACAVALLI name that I can find on the Ellis Island website is MANGIACAVALLO and most of these originated from Ribera, Sicily.
Do you have any information about the CIRCO family in Sicily pre-1800, please? I live in England and do not speak Italian [nor Latin] so I am finding this area of research somewhat challenging and any pointers would be appreciated!
