Re: Alfio J. Vacanti (d. 1984, age 65) obit
I am searching for the Mendola family who were related to the Vacanti family in Omaha, Nebraska. I had a third cousin named Alfio Vacanti, but he was born on June 18, 1869 (probably in Lentini, Sicily) and was married to Lucia Formica who was born on September 20, 1880 (also probably in Lentini).
My great grandmother was Lucia Vacanti, born July 10, 1840 and my great greatfather was Vincenzo Mendola, born October 28, 1830. My father was also Vincenzo Mendola, but his name changed to James Mantell.
I have been desperately searching for relatives and have had no luck. Could we possibly be related?
Thanks!

My grandfather is Phil Vacanti of Ft. Calhoun NE. I will call him and ask if he knows of anyone by Mendola? I do know my grandpa's brother was Alphio and my great grandpa had a brother by that name. I hope I can help if you still need it.

I'd appreciate any help I can get. The Mendola's changed their name to Mantell upon arriving in the US from Lentini, Sicily.
Thanks!

Re: Alfio J. Vacanti (d. 1984, age 65) obit
Hi there...Hoping you can help me. My husband's ggf was Andrew Mantell from Italy. Well, he states that his parents were from Italy, but that he was from France. Not sure what that's about (on census records). Can't find anything else with his name and I'm assuming it's because it was a different Italian name that was changed or shortened. Wondering if you can offer any info. He was born around 1865 and lived in Brooklyn w/his wife Mary (Walsh) Mantell and I believe 4 children. One of his sons was my husband's grandfather. Anything familiar here? Thanks!

Glad I came across this post. Alfio was my grandpa. I have some pretty good genealogy for the Vacanti family in Omaha....well at least for our family. There r two Vacanti families that settled here. My goal is to get it all ironed out. Feel free to contact me for any help or questions. Btw...Grandma passed away this year. Chris
