Vabolis in Schuylkill County, PA
Looking for my grt-grandfather, Konstantin (Constantine John) VABOLIS, his family, his brother (Vincent) his family, others. Konstantin immigrated from Lithuania (Russia) was married to Anna YODIS; they lived in/about Shenandoah, PA (1895-1920), had 10 children (Sophia, Albert, Veronica, Ann, Blanche/Bronislaea, Mary, Agnes, Agatha, Helena, Edward). There may be a set of twins. Most moved to Detroit to work in auto industry, abt 1920-1922. Believe some of Konstantin's nephews went too: Anthony, Joseph, Peter. Records are higgily-wiggily, both civil church. Does anyone have any connection?

My grandfather passed 2 years back. His name was Joeseph Yodis. He was born and raised in PA. His mother and father were from Lithuania. But later on, he and my grandmother moved to Illinois. Hope this helps.

Re: Vabolis in Schuylkill County, PA
There do not appear to be that many with the name VABOLIS, back in the days of my grt-grandfather, Konstantin Vabolis (c. 1864-1940). I have finally located, in the US Census, all of his children, but of those still living, no one knows Konstantin's parents' names. It doesn't appear that they immigrated to the US. I have not found any documents with his parent's names either. All that I know is that Konstantin says, through the US Census, that he was married prior to coming to the US in 1892, to Anna YODIS/JODIS (or there may be another spelling). Supposedly, members of both families, Vabolis & Jodis, immigrated at about same time. I heard but have no proof that Konstantin had a brother called "Boli." Anna's parents were Alex & Antoinette Jodis, It is possible that there is a connection to your grt-grandfather Matas Vabolis...his being a brother or cousin to Konstantin. How I wish I could say definitely.

Re: Vabolis in Schuylkill County, PA
>Konstantin had a brother called "Boli." ... In Lithuanian language there is no such name. It could be (in Lithuanian transcription, do not use english pronoucations of these names): Balys, Balislavas, Baliukas... I tried to question my father (b.1918), but it is difficult to speak with him... So new info, my fathers father Juozas had a brother Jonas. This Jonas in his youth emigrated to Brasil and returned home only in 1950...1970? Was quite old ~80. No other information about Matas parents or brothers. As I remember my father 20 years ago tried to contact St. Peterburg (Leningrad) legal authorities but no data were retrieved. 1917-1918 year were quite crazy for St. Peterburg and Russia :) - revolution and civil war means something. I don't have the birth and death data of Matas. Need to visit cemetary. P.S. Sorry for bad English- not native language. http://www.savel.org

Re: Vabolis in Schuylkill County, PA
Thank you for telling me about Balyis, Bolisbavas, Baliukas. I had never found "BOLI" in the few books, or websites; thought it perhaps a nickname. (Seems Americans like to, or used to give nicknames to people, i.e,. John could be called Jack.) When I visited a Lithuanian church here, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, I found a number of Konstantin's children's birth & baptismal records. There, too, were a few records for Vincent Vabolis, Joseph Vabolis & Teofila Vabolis, but I have not encountered them in the US Census records...maybe the pages are too faded anymore. I don't know if Konstantin & his wife named their children after other family members (their parents, grandparents, etc.). Their names were Anna (1893-1988), Sophia (1896-1924), Albert (1897-1915), Emilia (1898-?), Bronislaea (1900-1997), Mary Helen (1903-1989), Agatha/Agnes (1905- ), Helene (1907- ), Edward (1908-1992), & twins Veronica (1915- ) & Francis (1915- ). Four are still living, but age has taken its toll on their memories. There was an Albert Vabolis who came to Pennsylvania between 1900-1910, but I have not been able to learn if he might have been related to my Konstantin. It seems that there are very few paper trails for me to try to follow up. I appreciate your help, your comments. Even Konstantin's birth date is still really a question: each Census indicated a different age, even his death certificate...I have estimated 1864, though I could be very wrong. He did die in Jan., 1940.
