Is there any UXA living in the States interested in the European Family Tree. I'm one of the last UXA living in Europe, Austria. I would like to know more about the USA-UXA-families. When their immigration to the USA took place, which part of Europe they come from, ect.

There are a fair number of descendants of John and Mary Uxa (both born in Bohemia in early 1800's) in St. Louis, Missouri.
They emigrated in the early 1850's. My father is a second cousin to the Uxa's and I am in contact with M.C. Uxa who has done a lot of research on the family in the U.S. We would love to know more about the European family and its origins.

I am one of a number of Uxa's living in St. Louis, Missouri. The M.C. Uxa that J. Butler refers to in his/her message dated 29 October 2001 is my father's sister-in-law (Mary Catherine Uxa.) I'm not sure how active she is in her research on our family name however, I will see her in a couple of weeks and I will share your e-mail address with her. (Note: The St. Louis Uxa's keep in close contact with one another and we'll be gathering on December 15th for our annual Christmas party -- a tradition that has occured longer than I've been alive...and that's 41 years!) In all, there are approximately 75 Uxa descendants in the St. Louis area.

I've also come across a Frank Uxa who appears on the University of California's website because of a number of swimming records he holds. According to his biography, he and his parents (Frank and Pat) originate from Hammond, Indiana.

Hope this is of some help to you...

Best Regards,
Charlie Uxa

(I was very interested to learn that Uxa's reside in areas of Europe outside of the Slavic countries!)

The Frank Uxa at UC Berkeley you spoke of is my younger brother. Our parents moved the family from the midwest to Orange County, CA in 1988. We are the only Uxas we know of in this area, and the Uxa name has dwindled in the Chicago area due to lack of male offspring. My father has one sister, who has married and lives in Texas. Unfortunately, we know very little about our ancestry, other than we're Bohemian and Polish. We're always interested in learning more.

Dear Andrea, 'Uxas' are not only in the States (St.Louis):
a small 'Uxa Family' is living in Triest, where our grandparents arrived at the and of the 18th century; there are Uxa at Wien (an Eng. Oscar Uxa invented the Petz candies dispenser around 1950?), if I'm not wrong, in Checz: is seems that our family had origin somewhere in the Austro-Ungarian Empire !
Someone left Trieste at the end of the II° WW to Brazil, Belo Orizonte.
Excuse me for the 'delay'

I've tried to get in touch with the Uxa family living in Trieste. As far as I know - my fahter (Alois Uxa)and uncle(Kurt Uxa) told me so, resulting from the researches that had to be done in the Hitler regime - that we came along with the soldiers of Svedish King Gustav in the early 1640s to Bruno in Tchech, working as blacksmiths. Then part of this family emigrated to Vienna and the East of Austria. My father was born in 1907 in Styria and died 1962. Although they were five children, none of the next generation survived. I'm the only one of this name living now in Innsbruck/Tyrol/Austria after having been for more than 30 years married to an Italian and working in Bolzano/Italy.
