I am just beginning our search for my husband's ohana. My own ohana can be traced back to the 1600's, but auwe! the Muchi Koomoa / Julia Scott ohana is quite elusive. My husband was told that his grandmother's name was Julia Honolii Kahukawai or Kahamakuwai or Hamakuwai Scott. My husband's mother said her mother (Julia) is full Hawaiian (but with a last name of Scott?, maybe hanai?). We come up empty with any of Julia's names. No link to Scott. The closest is Kahahama Uwaia or Kahahana Uwaia and they did have a daughter named Julia or Juliea, who married a Bell. However, Julia Koomoa was born around 1895 - 1897 and Julia (Uwaia) Bell died in 1895. Julia Koomoa also married a Bell sometime after her first husband's (Koomoa) death and had a son named John Piko Bell. The Koomoa's had four children: Julia, Muchi, Jr., Pansy (aka Nancy), and Thomas. Julia and Pansy have already passed on; we know nothing about Muchi, Jr. and Thomas. There are lots of Koomoa's, but no link to Muchi (who was hanai to a Japanese family (possibly Waipio Valley) since we don't know what his birth name was. According to my mother in-law they changed his first name, but retained his last name. Mahalo for your time.

Aloha mai kaua

Mahalo for the information.

I believe Uwaia is in fact Uaia (I believe this because of the spelling....U wah ia thus Uwaia).

Can you tell me where, the source you got Julia from?

Strange enough...My great grand mothers inoa was Malei or Mary Uaia, her daughter was named Julia....hummm...

Malama no ka ohana.

I'm a rookie at genealogy and when no results came up with the names I previously posted, I searched for names that came close to Julia's. The Uwaia, Uaia connection were quite interesting: some of the families' names are also connected, but there was a generation gap between the Uwaia's and Julia. I'm probably way off base, but the search continues.

Aloha mai kaua O' Sing

Once i read, that if in doubt during research, copy it....put away in a box filed as possible Ohana.

This has happened to me so many times, and I am glad I read this...I pieced Ohana together this way....

Mahalo for responding...Anytime you have a Question (Ninau), or just talk....go to Ridgewalker@Hawaii.rr.com

Keep Ohana connected....
