I was visiting an Usry friend in Gibson recently & saw the monument to the Confederate soldier Gibson up by the old well. Being a War Between the States buff, I started doing some looking online. I ran across Peter Usry as being a Confederate veteran. Then I simply Googled him & found a copy of his will! He left his land to Elizabeth except that part which he had already given to his son Daniel. Its a fascinating document to read & I was able to print it to give to my friend in Gibson, & will try to attach it here. There will be 3 pages.
Tom
warnock31510

Re: Tracy Lay Usry & Nellie Mcfarlin

I don't know if you received any information yet, but perhaps I can lend a little insight. Tracy and Nellie Usry lived in Gadsden Alabama. Their two children were James and Tracy McFarlin (Mack). Mack moved to Miami in 1946. He worked as an executive chef most of his life and was married three times. first wife I am unsure of her name but their children are Tracy E, and Kevin McFarlin, Tracy has two sons, Jack and Tracy jr, and Kevin last I heard had two daughters. Mack's second wife, my mother, Norma Jane, they had twins, myself, Karen and Sharen. His third wife was June, no children. Mack died in Jupiter Florida in May of 1992. I believe James lived in Gadsden all of his life and had three children. There is a reunion for the Usry's in Gadsden in the summertime. I know they once had a plantation in Gadsden but never owned slaves. That is all I have for now. Someone once sent me a family tree dating back to the 1500's for the Usry side of the family but it was lost when my home was destroyed in Hurricane Wilma. Hope this helps.

Karen

Anyone on this list working the families listed? There was a connection between all four of these families during the mid 1850's in Lancaster Co., S.C.
Mary MILLER b. May 5th, 1826, married Calvin USRY b. October 6th 1823, on Feb. 10th, 1848. Calvin USRY d. April 24th 1854 and the widow, Mary Miller USRY married Zachariah SUTTON on Dec. 3rd, 1857. Mary Miller Usry SUTTON passed away on August 25th, 1858. Zachariah SUTTON married Mary Ann PHILLIPS c 1859-1860. My ancestors are Zachariah and Mary Ann Phillips SUTTON.
Sarah Catharine USRY, b. December 15th, 1850, a daughter of Calvin and Mary Miller USRY, I believe, married Atlas Pitman, July 6th, 1865.
This information was obtained from a copy I received a couple of years ago from someone on this list. The copy was from their ancestor's bible, called the "The BIble of Atlas PITMAN".
Trying to find out if there is anyone working these families that can provide any information at all regarding Zachariah SUTTON's marriage with the widow, Mary Miller USRY.
Thank you,
David T.
Do you know where William is buried in Geoegia? Also, how do you know that William married Jency? This is my line, but I haven't found anything on his marriage, only a listing on the 1820 census, but I'm trying to get out of Georgia somehow and trace the roots back. I just spent some time in Glascock/Warren counties three weeks ago, but didn't turn up anything new. Thanks!

Thomas William Usry, Hiram P (Toby) Usry from GA to TX

I am trying to trace my grandfather Thomas WIlliam Usry, born 10 Nov 1878 in GA, and his brother Hiram (Toby) Usry born March 1873 in GA. I can only locate them in TX from about 1900, when they married two sisters from AL - Sarah C (Susie) and Vina (Melvina Luviina) Vestal in central TX. I believe they had a younger brother Roy Lee (born 22 Jan 1885 in GA) and perhaps sister Silvia and cousin Floyd H Usry. Floyd marrried Janette (Nettie) House and lived in Smith County TX.

Mother wrote that her father's parents "died when he was young".

I have put up what I know, or suspect, on Worldconnect.

Can anyone please help me trace them back to GA? Or anywhere...

Re: Thomas William Usry, Hiram P (Toby) Usry from GA to TX

Update. My grandfather Thomas William Usry was born to Solomon Usry and Volusia Smith Usry in Sumter County Georgia on 10 November 1878.

Hiram Probert Usry was his first cousin, son of John Usry.

I have hints that Solomon and Volusia had four children. She died 14 March 1887 in Sumter County GA.

On 3 November 1887, Solomon married Willie Bell Green in Sumter County Georgia. They, together with his uncle John Usry, moved to Smith County Texas, where they sold land.

On 6/10/1892 (10 June? 6 October?) Solomon died there. Willie Bell moved back to Georgia with their two Texas-born daughters - Mamie and Minnie. Solomon's children from his first marriage stayed in Texas.

Can anyone help me with information about Solomon Usry and his family in Smith County Texas between 1887 and 1892? I don't even have a reliable count of his other children, much less their names (except for Thomas).
For those keeping track of Usry info..the following was placed in the Augusta paper dated Tues, May 21, 1889. Dr. Joshua F. Usry, one of the noblest and most prominent ment that ever resided in the limits of Glascock county, breathed his last at 12:30 o'clock on Friday. He graduated at the old Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia Pa., in the year 1852, and returned to Glascock county and entered upon the practice of medicine. They had children, Eva Mae (Walden) born 23 Oct 1902; Myrtle L born c 1905; and Luther born c 1907. Sallie Usry Brown must have died after Luther was born. By about 1909 Simeon Brown had married Mary Lou Daniel (1893-1975), daughter of Warren G.
