After 64 years we find out my dad's real father was George Watson Usry born March 2, 1894 and died April 2, 1937 his wife's name was Carrie Hadden Usry. We would like some info on the family and if my dad has any brothers or sisters. They were from the Augusta Georgia area. Anything on this would be much appreciated.

Hello Mrs. Usry. The origin of the Usry/Ussery surname has never been definately proven. The name has been found in lowland Scotland and I have a copy of a land grant from King George II of England to a John Ussey (Usry)in 1691. This would lead me to believe that the Usry/Ussery family came from somewhere in the UK

A hotbed of Usry's: Glascock, Jefferson &Warren Co's GA Many moved to Augusta. My Father-in-law' is 84. He remembers many families from the entire area. His Grampa was George Usry C.S.A.,whose father was Rev.Peter Usry and whose mother was Eliz.Swint. Jincy Callahan and William Usry were Peter,s parents. Many are buried in the Baptist and Methodist cemeteries in the TriCoo. area. We are just starting.

We have just returned from several days of searching the countryside around Gibson and Avera. My husband's Usry-Kitchens family are buried in Magnolia Baptist Church. We also found Mill Creek Baptist established 1850, where we have heard the Rev. Peter preached. It would have been a long ride from Mitchell. Many Swints there. I am sure by now that you have found the Marion D. Usry pedigree here at Ancestry.com. I have decided to join. Good luck.
